Venice’s 72nd International Film Festival will once again be a highlight of the summer. Organized by La Biennale di Venezia (the Venice Biennale) and directed by Alberto Barbera, it will take place at the famous Venice Lido. The event is renowned for being an exclusive launching pad for the work of upcoming filmmakers as well as for accomplished actors and actresses.

Italian-born actress Elisa Sednaoui will host the festival inauguration ceremony on the evening of Wednesday 2nd September on the stage of the Sala Grande (Great Hall) of the Palazzo del Cinema at the Lido. She will also host the closing ceremony 10 days later, at which the winners of the Lions and other official Festival awards will be announced.

The actress, who was born in Italy in 1987, but lived in Egypt, Italy and France during her formative years, achieved success both as an international model and a theater and film performer. Her latest movie, Soap Opera, by Alessandro Genovesi, opened the Rome Film Festival in 2014. This year Elisa Sednaoui made her debut as a director with the documentary entitle Image of a Woman, which has yet to be released. She also wrote the film’s screenplay with author and screenwriter Nicholas Klein, famous for his scripts of Buena Vista Social Club and Million Dollar Hotel.

The Festival will be held at various locations at the Venice Lido, including the Palazzo del Cinema, Casino, Sala Darsena and the PalaBiennale. This year’s line-up is offered below.
