The Swiss are syonymous with watch-making, so it comes as no surprise that the most famous Watch Show in the world, Baselworld, is held in Switzerland every year. Baselworld 2016 will be held from 17 to 24 March this year, and it promises to be as eventful and exciting as ever. Every year, watchmakers, diamond, pearl and gemstone dealers as well as jewellers display their latest to the industry, making Baselworld the focus of creativity and innovativeness.
Designers, buyers, media and consumers flock to Basel every year to attend this major event, which is recognized as the most important showcase of its kind. This is where trends emerge that affect the watch and jewellery industry worldwide, so it’s no surprise that upwards of 150,000 visit Basel to attend the show, not to mention 4,000 members of the media. Baselworld showcases the most prestigious watch and jewellery brands available as well as emerging design talent and the very best retailers. Anyone interested in this exclusive range of precious accessories will be at the show to see the latest collections and find out what will be worn in the coming year.
Because of the show’s fame and exclusivity, a member of the Swiss Federal Council inaugurates the show every year. This year, Federal Councillor Simonetta Sommaruga, who is Head of the country’s Federal Department of Justice and Police, will officially open Baselworld on 17 March.

Amongst the stunning array of the latest watches on display will be a new woman’s timepiece from Italian jeweller and watchmaker, Bulgari. The watch, which is made from 18-karat pink gold, is the latest addition to Bulgari’s special Serpenti range. It features a case that is shaped like a snake’s head as well as a jet black enamel coiled bracelet set embellished with diamonds. Sapphire crystals protect the case (they are anti reflective and scratchproof). Customers have a choice of either a black sapphire or a white mother-of-pearl dial, depending on which model they choose. It is encrusted with 33 diamonds that are set on the hour-markets. The total weight of the diamonds in the watch is 4.12 karats. This magnificent timepiece is powered with a Swiss-made Caliber B031 Quartz movement that was personalized by Bulgari. Prices for the watches in the Serpenti collection range from approximately $7,000 to $96,000.
