Cartier to unveil new watch in Geneva

The annual 2017 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) watch fair held in Geneva is expected to offer many highlights, including the brand new Rotonde de Cartier Mysterious Hour Skeleton Watch. Baroque Access offers information all about the show, as well as about this spectacular timepiece

At the start of every year, those in the watch industry head for the Salon International De La Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) in Geneva to find out the trends in watches and watchmaking for the coming year. The SIHH in 2017 will be no exception, offering the opportunity for watchmakers to showcase what they have in store for the retail market. And in 2017 SIHH is also giving the public the chance to take a look. This year’s SIHH takes place from 16 to 20 January, and for the first time ever, the final day of the show, 20 January, will be open to the public as well as those in the watch industry.

The show, which is now in its 27th year, has become known as one of the best international fine watch shows in the world. One of the reasons it is so popular is that it offers a peek into emerging trends for the coming year as well as a look at brand new watch models. At this year’s show even more brands than usual will be participating including Ulysse Nardin and Girard-Perregaux.

More than 15,000 visitors are expected to attend this auspicious event in Geneva, home of watchmaking and a city that is rich in tradition. The show takes place at Geneva Palexpo, located just 10 minutes from the city center.

One of the highlights of this year’s show is going to be the brand new range of timepieces from luxury French jewelry brand Cartier. The design house revealed this spectacular range of timepieces ahead of SIHH. One of the timepieces that is going to garner a lot of attention is the Cartier Rotonde De Cartier Mysterious Hour Skeleton Watch, which boasts a new variation of the mystery clock design for which Cartier is legendary.

This particular timepiece is created using Cartier’s Rotonde de Cartier design framework. However, it’s quite unique. It boasts an innovative, meticulously created skeletonization that is set within a 42mm palladium case. The watch is powered by Cartier’s special caliber 9983 MC hand-wound movement. Watch users are able to see glimpses of this special movement through the watch’s metal roman numerals.

The watch’s sub-dial is created from two small sapphire discs with fitted white hands. These hands look as if they are not in the least connected to the movement. Other notable features of this exceptional timepiece include a cabochon sapphire crown and a black leather strap.

Cartier has long been renowned for its fine timepieces, and this particular one is no exception. This iconic luxury watchmaker was founded in the mid-19th Century by Louis- François Cartier.
