Is this the most luxurious SUV ever made?

Rolls-Royce is famous for its innovative creations, and its latest incarnation is no exception. This year the British automakers are launching a stunning bespoke SUV. Baroque Ground has all the details

RR 6x6 2.jpg

We love the Rolls-Royce Wraith, right? And now, imagine that it has been given a dose of steroids. What’s the result, you ask? It’s not a coupé this time. It’s a super-luxury SUV called the Cullinan. The brain behind this innovative creation is an Indian automobile designer who specializes in custom-made models of famous vehicles. And his take on the Rolls-Royce Wraith is one amazing vehicle… it’s a six-wheeler for starters, a four-door, three-axle concept car whose enormous wheels get all the attention.

RR 6x6 1.jpg

Due to be launched this year, the Wraith-like SUV is a completely bespoke vehicle, a handcrafted four-seat luxury grand tourer that has a similar chassis to the Rolls-Royce Ghost. Although it’s an SUV, it doesn’t feature all-wheel-drive. In fact, the power in the car is sent to only the four rear wheels.

Let’s face it – this isn’t the first SUV to come out of a luxury car manufacturer in the past few years. At the end of 2017, Italian automaker Lamborghini revealed a new model that combines the performance and style of a sports car with the durability associated with an SUV. And let’s not forget the earlier incarnation from Bentley, the beautiful Bentayga. But this one from Rolls-Royce certainly ups the ante.

RR 6x6 3.jpg

The name of the vehicle, ‘Cullinan’, is from the very famous and equally enormous Cullinan Diamond that boasts almost 3,107 carats. The SUV will be based on Rolls-Royce’s new aluminium-space frame architecture. Its engine is likely to be similar to the twin-turbo 6.6 liter in the Rolls-Royce Ghost, and there’s no doubt that a plug-in hybrid will also be on offer.

Of course, the caliber of person purchasing one of these exquisite SUV’s won’t mind the fact that fuel is going to cost a fortune. The person also won’t be averse to waiting for the 2019 vehicle’s release in late 2018. Or parting with more than the cost of a Rolls-Royce Wraith, which is in the region of $420,000.

If you would like to find out further details about this exceptional new Rolls-Royce creation, or are interested in purchasing one of these luxurious new SUV’s, let Baroque Ground assist. Mail us right away,, and we will assist you in every way possible.

McLaren’s extraordinary 720S was recently named ‘Car of the year’ for 2017 as well as ‘Best Supercar of 2017’ in the evo Car of the Year Awards. Baroque Ground finds out more

2015_mclaren_570s-2560x1600 copy.jpg

Winner in two categories is no mean feat especially with some heavy competition. So McLaren has every reason to be proud of itself, as it has just been awarded two different titles in the car magazine evo’s Car of the Year Awards for 2017 – both ‘Car of the Year’ and ‘Best Supercar of 2017’.

Yes, there were several other categories making up 10 in all in these illustrious awards, but once we saw ‘Car of the Year’ and ‘Best Supercar’, forgive us if we go on and on about this magnificent vehicle. OK, the awards, which are considered extremely prestigious, also recognized a number of other British automakers, including Bentley and Lotus. Bentley’s Continental GT was named evo’s ‘Best GT’ for 2017 and the Lotus Elise Sport 220 received accolades as the ‘Best Sports Car’ for that year.

The 10 key categories in these prestigious awards honoured top performance vehicles in several different categories. Road testers judged the cars on their performance on the road as well as their delivery when it comes to offering an excellent driving experience. To win both ‘Car of the Year’ and ‘Sports car of the Year’, the McLaren 720S had to be quite extraordinary. And it is. According to the editor of car magazine evo, Stuart Gallagher, the vehicle “is the product of a manufacturer that hasn’t changed its focus on wanting to build the most exciting, thrilling and best performance cars it can.”

Aside from being exceptionally fast, the vehicle offers an extremely smooth ride. As the magazine says, “This is one very special car.” Not only that – British automakers have succeeded time and again in showing their talent, creativity and keeping their tradition when it comes to creating high performance cars.

The magazine certainly knows what it’s talking about. The evo Car of the Year Awards was first launched in 1998 and has now run for 30 consecutive years, naming the very best performance cars from around the world each year.

New Mercedes G-Class launches 2018

Car fundi’s heading for the Detroit Auto Show mid-January will be in for a treat – the new Mercedes G-Class is one of the many new vehicles on display. And it’s completely different from the G-Class of old. Baroque Ground has all the details

merc g 2.jpg

Sure to be a standout at the Detroit Auto Show in January 2018, the brand new Mercedes G-Class is waiting for attention. And it’s well-deserved attention indeed, as the new iteration is completely different from its legendary predecessors, cars that in their own right took center stage in the almost 40 years that they have been making an impact off road.

merc g interior.jpg

Believe it or not, since 1979, over 300,000 different G-Class vehicles have given their owners a unique driving experience, something unachievable with any other car. But all of that is about to change – for the better. Sure, the 2019 G-Class looks very much like those models that have come before it. Why mess with that? It’s a winning formula, and the car is unlike anything else on the road. Mercedes knew that the only place to make any distinctive changes to an off-road legend was under the hood. Sure, the interior has been updated, and there are many new features. But, compared to the experience you’ll get when you are behind the steering wheel, they are mere window dressing.

Yes, you’ll feel comfortable opening the door of the G-Class with its distinctive door handle, you’ll enjoy hearing that characteristic noise it makes when you close the door. The exposed spare wheel on the rear door is still there, as well as those statement-making indicator lights. The car looks a touch more modern with its geometric shape and round headlamps, but the signature grab handle in front of the passenger seat is still there, as it has been since the original G-Class was created in 1979. You’ll also find the chrome-highlighted switches for the diff locks and air vents in the same position as the original. Those are characteristic features, so why mess with them?

Right, let’s get behind the wheel. The driver controls the entire entertainment system on the steering wheel, with touch-sensitive Touch Controls that respond in the same manner as a smartphone does, with swiping movements. You don’t need to lift your eyes off the road to do a thing. Inside, the interior is as classic and identifiable as ever, except for an expansive digital dash that was first seen on the Mercedes S-Class. It comprises two 12.3-inch digital screens, one for the infotainment system (already mentioned) and the other for the instrument cluster.

The 2019 G-Class G500 is powered by a 4.0-liter turbo-charged V8 engine with 400 horsepower and there will also be a G63 version with closer to 600 horsepower.

BMW reveals the i8 Hybrid

At the beginning of the month, BMW unveiled its i8 hybrid sports car in the Roadster version at the LA Auto Show. Baroque Ground was there

i8 hybrid 1.jpg

The much-anticipated Roadster version of the BMW i8 is finally here, and it boasts more power than its predecessor, as well as in increased range of electric driving, not to mention new additions to its interior. The German automaker revealed the new vehicle and its updated coupe variant at the LA Auto Show at the beginning of December.

i8 hybrid3.jpg

The new hybrid i8 also boasts a lithium-ion battery pack that features an increased 11.6-kilowatt per hour capacity. This bigger battery gives a 12 horsepower hike in power from the electric system, giving it a total output of 141hp and 184 pound-feet of torque. Other battery improvements include a longer all-electric range, meaning that the new i8 is able to travel for up to 18 miles on electric-only mode. This is an increase of 15 miles compared to the i8’s old battery.

So what can be expected from BMW’s new i8 Hybrid? It can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds, for starters, and it apparently reaches that speed in just 4.4 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 miles per hour.

i8 hybrid5.jpg

The new Roadster also features a fabric top that apparently opens in a mere 15 seconds at speeds of up to 31 miles per hour. The new iteration is also not much heavier than its predecessor, because it has been made from carbon fiber-enforced plastic and aluminum. The i8 with a drop top is just 132 pounds heavier than the coupe, which weighs 3,513 pounds.

BMW calls its new i8 “an entirely new concept of sports car”. It’s more efficient than its predecessor, because of its intelligent lightweight construction and more sustainable with BMW’s extremely efficient eDrive technology and its recyclable materials used in creating the interior.

i8 hybrid6.jpg

This plug-in hybrid offers drivers the advantages of innovative electric motor and combustion engine technologies and creates an extraordinary driving experience with low consumption and low emissions.

When you first look at the vehicle, it resembles a sports car. It’s extremely low and wide when viewed from the front and features a flat silhouette with powerfully formed surfaces and precise lines. Your second look will reveal the design that has resulted in a sustainable, efficient car that is both dynamic and sporty. Combining an electric motor with a powerful petrol engine has given the world a sports car that is one of the most innovative of all time.

BMW’s i8 Roadster and coupe will both be available in Spring 2018. Pricing has not yet been announced.

Lamborghini’s 2019 Supercar – Urus

Baroque Ground introduces the Urus, a new super car from Italian automakers Lamborghini, which combines the performance of a sports car with the sturdiness and durability of an SUV

Lamborghini is serious about getting back into the SUV market, if its latest vehicle, the Urus, revealed in early December, is anything to go by. It’s the sort of sports car you can take dune driving, or show off on the road in the city. It also boasts a new engine, a 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8, that will offer improved fuel economy, is lightweight and provides low-end torque – 650 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque to be exact –  which is the best weight-to-power ratio of any SUV currently on the market, making it the fastest SUV available. Reaching from 0 to 62mph in 3.6 seconds, 0 to 124mph in 12.8 seconds and a top speed of 190mph, it’s certainly showing its mettle.

What’s more, there is a plug-in hybrid version, as well. This iteration will only arrive in about a year, but it’s something to look forward to.

The new Urus is not only very fast; at less than $200,000, it’s not badly priced, either. And there won’t be that many Lamborghini Urus cars on the road initially. Only 1,000 units will be built at the automaker’s Sant’Agata Bolognese factory in 2018, and 3,500 are expected to be built the following year and every year thereafter. That is a lot of cars for Lamborghini, which usually only manufacturers around 3,500 of all its cars in any given year.

The name ‘Urus’ is a breed of Italian bull, a different breed of bull from Lamborghini’s usual models. Initially revealed in 2012 at the Beijing Auto Show, the car is now ready to hit the road. If you would like to find out more about this exceptional vehicle, let Baroque Ground assist. Mail us right away, and we will provide you with all the information you require, including how to purchase one of these Lamborghini stars come 2018.

Celebrate 2018 with the new Aston Martin Vantage

The latest Aston Martin Vantage model has just been revealed, with a bold new look. Baroque Ground takes a look

With a whole suite of integrated electronic systems for maximum control and driver enjoyment, the new entry level Aston Martin Vantage is something to behold. With a price tag of around $163,000, the new iteration is expected to hit the streets in spring 2018.

British luxury automakers Aston Martin have created Vantage models for more than 70 years, and they describe their latest iteration as the ultimate in both style and power. The Vantage’s boasts a new alloy 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine and, for optimal center of gravity, the vehicle has been set low and as far back as possible in the chassis and features a perfect ratio of 50:50 in weight distribution.

The vehicle produces 510bhp, and can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 3.5 seconds, with a maximum speed of 195mph. The integrated electronic systems include dynamic stability control and dynamic torque vectoring.

A first for the Aston Martin Vantage range is the electronic rear differential that is linked to the car’s electronic stability control system, so that it knows the car’s behavior and can react accordingly to direct the power of the engine to the relevant wheel.

Yes, the Vantage is good looking. In typical Aston Martin Vantage style, it has a predatory stance, and new head and taillights give it unmistakable road presence. Its muscular flanks show just how agile and dynamic it is, and the overall appearance is of a car that has a strong and individual identity.

Inside the car is more spacious and has more headroom compared to previous iterations. The transmission buttons have been moved to a triangular formation and a highlight is the digital dashboard and media screens, with its 8-inch LCD screen.

Standard with the Vantage is keyless start and stop, a tire pressure monitoring system, parking distance display, park assist and front and rear parking sensors. It’s Entertainment system is controlled and viewed via the centrally mounted LCD screen and features the Aston Martin Audio System, Bluetooth audio and phone streaming. There’s also iPod, iPhone and USB playback and an integrated sat nav system.

If you’re planning on purchasing a new Aston Martin Vantage, you can order one now, but be aware - deliveries won't begin until the second quarter of 2018.

Second generation all-electric roadster from Tesla

Meet the new Tesla roadster, touted to be the quickest production car in the world. Baroque Ground gives you all the details about founder Elon Musk’s latest creation

Elon Musk’s second-generation all-electric Roadster is no copycat. It’s a whole new beast from the one that took the world by storm in 2008. The beautiful four-seater is, according to Musk, going to be the quickest production car ever. Competing with the likes of Porsche and Ferrari is no mean feat, but the new Tesla Roadster is ready to take them on, and if the figures being bandied about are anything to go by, this is one serious vehicle.

Elon Musk’s latest creation apparently can go from 0 to 60mph in 1.9 seconds. If that is proved correct, then we’re talking about the fastest production vehicle ever made, the first of its kind to break the 2-second mark. Word has it that the Tesla Roadster Generation 2 can reach 100mph from 0 in just 4.2 seconds.

At its reveal recently in LA, which came at the same time as the announcement of Tesla’s new semi-truck, Musk intimated that the speed of this new beast is “above 250mph”. That’s one fast car. He also said that the Roadster featured a 200kWh battery pack and a 620-mile range per each charge, which is more than 1,000km per charge in kilometers. Not bad at all. Musk equated that to traveling from LA to San Francisco without recharging.

The exciting second-generation Roadster features three engines, one in the front and two at the back, as well as torque steering and all-wheel drive. The new super car has borrowed numerous features from other sports cars, including the McLaren P1 cockpit, headlights like the Bugatti Chiron, an exterior that resembles the Acura NSX, roof like a Targa and a rear that reminds us of an Aston Martin DB10.

Musk admitted to taking on gasoline cars head-on. “Driving any other turbo-charged sports car is going to feel like a steam engine with a side of quiche,” he quipped.

So when will this super car go into production? Sadly, not until 2020. However, those who are impatient can reserve one right away by handing over $50,000 deposit on the vehicle, which is expected to cost in the region of $200,000 for a base model. If you’re a supreme Tesla fan, you can get one of the first 1,000 Founders Series models of the Tesla Roadster, priced at quarter of a million dollars. But you have to pay for it now.

If you are interested in finding out more information about the innovative new Tesla Roadster, or would like to find out about purchasing either the limited edition Founders Series or the slightly cheaper base model, let Baroque Ground assist. Mail us now, and we will provide you with all the information you require, and assist you with a purchase.

$2.7 million German hyper car

German automaker Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur has designed hyper cars before, but this new iteration is even more impressive than their iconic Gumpert Apollo. Baroque Ground finds out more

More impressive than its predecessor, the Gumpert Apollo, the brand new 2018 Apollo Intensa Emozione Hyper car is a force to be reckoned with in the automotive industry. The Apollo Intensa Emoziona, whose name means ‘Intense Emotion’ in English, features a 6.3 liter naturally aspirated V12 engine. But it’s the US$2.7 million price tag that has tongues wagging.

Let’s take a look at the specs of this magnificent machine… 9,000 rpm, with peak power at 8,500 rpm, the vehicle churns out 769 horsepower and 561 pound-feet of torque. This is quite a feat when you consider that the new Apollo Intensa Emozione weighs a mere 2,756 pounds! The reason the car is so light is that Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur used a carbon fiber chassis and body for their hyper car, which was built in Italy by Manifattura Automobil Torina. In fact, the entire chassis, including the front and rear sub frames and the monocoque, weigh just 105kg in all (that’s just over 231 pounds).

In addition, Apollo decided not to go the electric route; instead, the car boasts a sequential six-speed manual gearbox that shifts fast and furiously.

All of these factors have resulted in a vehicle that can accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in 2.7 seconds, with a top speed of 208 miles per hour. According to Norman Choi, Apollo’s CEO, “We felt that all the technological advancement and automation in today’s supercars took away the pure, raw emotional connection between driver and car.

“We wanted to build a car that would fill that void separating car and driver. So we built the Apollo IE.”

Apparently, the manufacturers will only produce 10 bespoke examples of their Intensa Emozione. No wonder the price is so high.

If you are interested in purchasing one of these rare hyper cars, or would like more information about them, let Baroque Ground Assist. Mail us now, and we will find out everything you wish to know about the new Apollo Intesa Emozione hyper car, including how to purchase your very own bespoke model.

Range Rover’s latest is a hybrid

Jaguar Range Rover has announced its next creation – the 2019 Range Rover P400e plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Baroque Ground investigates

In what will be the first of a new breed of cars, Jaguar Land Rover announced the 2018 Range Rover P400e plug-in hybrid. This iteration features a 296-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbo-charged four cylinder gasoline engine that is paired with a 114-horsepower, 85kW electric motor, offering a total output of 398 horsepower and 474 pound-feet of torque.

Land Rover estimates that the Range Rover PHEV can travel for up to 31 miles on a fully charged battery, which is extremely competitive compared to other plug-in hybrid vehicles from BMW and Volvo. Included with the vehicle is a 7kW onboard charger, although, unlike the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, this one will not have DC fast charging, making the Mitsubishi the only plug-in hybrid with that feature.

Drivers have two driving modes, which gives them control over whether to use the gasoline engine or the electric motor. The vehicle features a Predictive Energy Optimization that uses GPS altitude information when the driver maps a route on the navigation system. According to Land Rover, this determines when to put the car into electric mode for greater efficiency and to conserve fuel.

Of course, the vehicle is not only about saving energy. According to Land Rover, it boasts excellent off-road capabilities. There’s a Terrain Response system that is designed to take advantage of the torque available from the hybrid system. This makes the plug-in version as capable as the standard one.

Adding this PHEV variant to the Range Rover mix is just one of many new changes to the 2018 Range Rover line-up. In addition, most of the vehicles have been a little revised when it comes to styling and also boast upgraded technology features, such as seats that can be folded using a smartphone app.

The 2018 Range Rovers in gasoline or diesel will be available at the end of 2017, and the PHEV models are expected to reach US dealerships by spring next year.

New from Porsche – Carrera T 911

German sports car legend Porsche has just introduced the latest to its long line of 911 models, the Porsche 911 Carrera T, which comes complete with a manual gearbox. Baroque Ground finds out all about it

When it comes to performance cars, a manual transmission is a wonderful thing, despite being somewhat rare in the world of super cars these days. Porsche has decided to change all that with its new Special Edition Touring 911, in an effort to protect what is becoming a rare breed. The new Porsche 911 Carrera T was inspired by the legendary 911 T manufactured in 1968. But to modernize it, Porsche even included some of the features of the new 911 GT3 Touring pack.

Interestingly enough, the 911 Carrera T is the lightest 911 available in the market today. The super car is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0 flat-six, the same as the one used in the base Carrera model. It produces 370 horsepower and 339 pound-feet of torque.

The most noteworthy news comes in the shape of the car’s seven-speed manual transmission. This manual-equipped version achieves 0-60mph in just 4.3 seconds, which is 0.1 seconds faster than the standard 911 Carrera. Meanwhile a PDK dual-clutch automatic is also available for an extra cost.

porsche carrera T 2018.jpg

Visually, the new Carrera T has slight differences to its counterparts. Many of its performance-enhancing features are not usually included in the 911 Carrera, but this one has them – Porsche’s aim is to provide owners with a more visceral driving experience. The new Carrera T boasts a new front lip, 20-inch Carrera S wheels that have a finish in titanium grey and side mirrors that are agate grey. On the side stripes one finds Carrera T branding and there’s a 911 Carrera T bade on the lid of the rear deck.

If you are interested in ordering this exceptional new Porsche Carrera model, which is priced at around $103,000, you can do so. Deliveries internationally, including in the US, start in March 2018. There is a choice of nine exterior colors, including Black, GT Silver, Guards Red, Jet Black, Lava Orange, Metallic Carrara White, Miami Blue and Racing Yellow.

New Lotus Elise Cup 260 Sports Car

To celebrate British automakers Lotus’ 70th anniversary, they have created a limited edition racing car that is said to be the most accomplished model in the brand’s history. Baroque Ground finds out all the details

previous lotus iteration the 250.jpg

Only 30 Lotus Elise Cup 260 vehicles were manufactured, using a combination of some of the latest car design philosophies from some of Lotus’ high-performance models. Inspiration for these one-of-a-kind vehicles are Lotus’s Exige Cup 380 and its legendary Evora GT430, as well as the competition-only Elise Race 250 which was created exclusively for use on the track.

lotus elise.jpg

To celebrate Lotus’ successes in motor sport, the new Elise Cup 260 Sports vehicles feature a laurel wreath decal on their left buttresses and the Union Jack is located on both the rear wing end plates. In addition, new owners of these limited edition Lotus cars will be given the option of finishing the vehicle in iconic Championship Gold to commemorate the brand’s 70th anniversary. This color is available across the whole Lotus range through the Lotus Exclusive programme, from November 2017 onwards.

The new Lotus Elise Cup 260 is not only the lightest Lotus ever built; it also includes nearly all of the lightweight Elise Cup options as standard, including sill covers, the roll hoop cover, front access panel and the engine cover, all of which are created in carbon.

According to CEO of Group Lotus, Jean-Marc Gales, “Our philosophy for producing extraordinary vehicles is world famous, but the new Elise Cup 260 goes beyond what many believed possible from our smallest car.

“It is directly developed from the Elise race cars that are competing in series around the world, giving the ultimate Elise experience on the road. More power, motorsport components and the introduction of aerodynamics unheard of in its class make driving this Elise an unrivalled experience.”

The car commemorates the forthcoming 70th anniversary of when the first car was built by founder Colin Chapman in 1948. Clive Chapman, son of founder Colin Chapman and Director of Classic Team Lotus, stated: “Each and every one of the sports cars produced by Group Lotus today carries the true spirit of Lotus, laid down by my father nearly 70 years ago. I am extremely proud that his legacy and achievements are being acknowledged and celebrated in this iconic version of the Elise.”

Summing up the new Lotus, CEO Jean-Marc Gales said, “With just 30 examples to be built, there’s no doubt that the Elise Cup 260 is a future classic.”

Two bespoke McLaren MSO super cars – for the same customer

British carmaker McLaren has just completed two exquisite, highly customized models of its MSO super car – the MSO R Coupé and MSO R Spider – for a single customer. Baroque Ground finds out more

McLaren Special Operations, which is the bespoke division of the British automaker, was commissioned by a customer to create two very customized MSO cars. The results? A stunning MSO R Coupé and MSO R Spider, both of which are the latest in a long line of specially commissioned McLaren cars that are always a complete collaboration of the owner and the car maker’s special division regarding the specifics.

According to Jolyon Nash, Executive Director of Global Sales and Marketing at McLaren Automotive, “An MSO Personal Commission is the highest level of partnership between a customer and McLaren Special Operations. It is undertaken to design, develop and create unique interpretations of McLaren cars, expertly tailored to meet the exact requirements of the owner.

“The result is a McLaren personalised by MSO to become a car that is literally one of a kind – or in the case of these stunning MSO R cars, one of a matched pair.”

These latest customized McLarens share the same specifications both on the outside and on the inside as well as when it comes to the mechanics. They are finished in a very understated yet attention-grabbing Liquid Silver color. The MSO R Coupé is finished with a satin finish, whilst the MSO R Spider boasts a gloss finish. Both feature a central stripe made from carbon fiber.

Both automobiles also have the same design when it comes to the twin-element rear wing and feature front dive planes to enhance the cars’ aerodynamic performance even further.

Inside, the cars are even more striking than their exteriors. Both cars have cabins with Alcantara trim material, mostly black with some striking red stitching. This is reversed on the seats – they are red with black stitching and boast a black MSO R logo embroidered on each headrest.

The steering wheel is made of carbon fiber on the upper and lower parts. There are black Alcantara grips and a Delta Red stripe in the center. The switches are made in gloss black, whilst the vent mechanisms have a satin black finish, and the bezels are made from carbon fiber.

All of these personalized features are evident in the engines of both cars, which have been blueprinted. The machine heads and exhaust ports are hand-polished, which assists in giving maximum power to the M838TL twin-turbocharged McLaren V8 engines.

Apparently, McLaren Special Operations is currently seeing an increasing number of customers enquiring about bespoke and one-off cars.

Mercedes unveils all-electric EQ concept car

New from Mercedes-Benz and a first for the luxury automaker – the all-new, all-electric EQ concept vehicle. Baroque Ground finds out all about it

merc EQ3.jpg

If you were unable to get to the Frankfurt Motor Show, which took place from 14 to 24 September 2017, you have missed out on German automaker Mercedes-Benz’s big reveal: the brand’s first-ever all-electric EQ concept vehicle. Definitely a highlight of this important annual motoring show, the concept car has a choice of two powerful electric motors, a brand new design named ‘Sensual Purity’ and high-tech elements that include laser fiber headlights and inductive charging.

merc EQ13.jpg

The name ‘EQ’ stands for ‘Electric Intelligence’; it’s derived from the Mercedes-Benz brand values of ‘Emotion and Intelligence’. The new brand covers all key aspects for electric mobility and extends beyond the vehicle itself, encompassing a comprehensive electric mobility ecosystem of products, services, technologies and innovations. The EQ Concept car is the brand’s first EQ model.

The dynamic EQ Concept vehicle resembles a sporty SUV coupé. It boasts two electric motors as well as permanent all-wheel drive capabilities, guaranteeing a dynamic high-level performance. According to Mercedes-Benz, the two extraordinary electric motors revealed recently in Frankfurt can reach an incredible total output of more than 200kW, which is almost twice the output of other vehicles in the same range, such as the new Nissan Leaf. This is apparently the result of scalable battery components. The new electric motors take around five seconds to go from 0 to 62 miles per hour.

merc EQ20.jpg

Gordon Wagener, Chief Design Officer at Daimler AG, of which Mercedes-Benz is a part, says that these concept vehicles are a reinterpretation of the brand’s design philosophy of Sensual Purity. The result? “Progressive Luxury for our EQ brand.”

“Concept EQ is hot and cool,” he says. “Our aim was to create an avant-garde, contemporary and distinctive electro-look. At the same time, the design of the visionary show car, which has been reduced to the essentials, reveals an alluring progressivity.”

merc EQ28.jpg

The vehicle’s interior is just as exceptional as the stunning exterior. The cockpit is driver-oriented with simple, touch-based controls. The instrument panel is assymetrical with a large, floating wide-screen display. Throughout, the interior is luxurious and contemporary and extremely user-friendly. The steering wheel has touch controls and the automatic climate control and infotainment system also operate the same way.

merc EQ23.jpg

According to Daimler AG CEO and Head of Mercedes-Benz, Dr Dieter Zetsche, “By 2022 Mercedes will have launched more than 10 all-electric vehicles on the market. And the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQA proves that we are serious about introducing electric mobility throughout the portfolio.”

Mercedes has stated that this new electric vehicle can manage around 249 miles on one single charge via a wallbox plug, which is a fast-charging station for the home, or via induction like wireless charging on the latest smartphones.

Revealed for the first time this month, the Mercedes Maybach 6 Cabriolet made its premiere at Monterey Car week from 15 to 20 August. Mercedes then revealed the concept vehicle at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance in California this past Sunday.

With its Art Deco-inspired design, the Mercedes-Maybach 6 Cabriolet concept car is a magnificent beast. Last year at the very same Concours D’Elegance event, the automaker showcased the Mercedes Maybach 6 Coupe, a hard-top that was quite similar to its new Maybach iteration, in that it was long and powerful. But this year’s updated model is even more appealing, offering the opportunity to drive along with the top down.

The convertible Maybach is a force to be reckoned with, a vehicle that is the epitomy of luxury. Despite its length (almost 20 feet), it’s a two-seater that is almost 7 feet wide, accommodating only two people, thus upping the ante when it comes to sheer luxe. Its sleek, futuristic design is another major draw card. The convertible also boasts huge 24-inch wheels.

merc maybach 8.jpg

But the biggest advantage of this brand new model is the fact that it’s an electric vehicle, with a total output of 550 kW (that’s 750 horsepower) from four electric motors – this means that the car can drive for approximately 500km on a single charge! The 737 hp allows for an acceleration of 0 to 100km per hour in less than four seconds, and the car’s top speed is limited to 250km per hour, which is approximately 155 miles per hour. A flat battery positioned under the vehicle’s floor gives it a range of 200 miles on a single charge. Mercedes says the car’s advanced fast charging system can provide up to 60 miles of range in just five minutes of charging. As the car batteries are in the floor, this provides storage space under the hood for luggage and tools.

The car’s wooden interior and crystal white leather will take your breath away. Inspired by the interior of a luxury super yacht, particularly in the rear end, it epitomizes automotive haute couture at its best. Of course, the blue exterior of the car (it’s finished with Nautical Blue Metallic paint), and its tapering tail is also very yacht-like in appearance.

Drivers will enjoy sitting behind an instrument cluster that features classic round gauges with working needles. There’s a navigation system that is linked to touchscreen displays, and an intelligent concierge system uses voice commands to provide the driver with information based on location and the time of day.

Sadly, it’s still not known whether this exquisite cabriolet will make it to production, but some of its design cues might end up on future Maybach vehicles. But we’ll continue to be ever-hopeful, waiting for pricing and a release date.

Bentley inspired by a luxury yacht

British firms Bentley and Princess Yachts have collaborated to create a bespoke Continental GT Convertible that is inspired by yacht design. Baroque Ground finds out all about it

It’s the interior of this exclusive Bentley convertible that takes inspiration from yacht design, thanks to yacht experts Princess Yachts. This, the ultimate edition of the Continental GT Convertible, which is only available in a limited edition of 30 cars, is in ocean hues of Glacier White and lower bright ware in Sequin Blue outside, but the clean, confident lines and materials on the interior are materials used in yachts. Called The Galene Edition by Mulliner, which is Bentley’s bespoke commissioning division, the vehicle combines the very best elements of a luxury ocean lifestyle and a plush convertible motorcar.

The Bentley Galene edition of the Continental GT Convertible is powered by the automaker’s refined 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that churns out 500 horsepower. It boasts the brand’s elegant four-layered retractable hood that keeps passengers in the same comfortable environment as the hardtop Continental GT coupe.

Its plush interior pays homage to the classic opulence, quality hand-crafted materials and exquisite details that are signatures of both Bentley vehicles and luxury super yachts. Seats are covered in Linen and Portland hides with Camel hand cross-stitching, the doors are in Linen, Portland and Brunel and the center console, dashboard and armrests are in Linen, Brunel and Camel. The steering wheel is Linen and Brunel with a Camel stripe at 12 o’ clock and the headrest boasts detailed embroidery in Camel. The car’s signature is its fascia panels in the interior that can be hand painted with a unique Jaume Vilardelli illustration of a luxury yacht located next to the Mulliner logo. The renowned Spanish illustrator’s drawing is also featured on the clock bezel.

The Galene edition has a specially bespoke material finish, called Pinstripe Walnut that creates an authentic, natural finish in the center stack and console. This is echoed in the illuminated tread plates and lines the floor of the boot.

This new Bentley iteration takes the relationship with luxury cars and super yachts one step further. Although not the first time that boats and cars have inspired each other, the new Galene edition is in its own class. The car has been named after the Greek goddess Galene, goddess of calm seas. Throughout the exquisite design one finds plenty of inspiration from luxury yachting, from the color of the car itself to its 21-inch Propellor alloy wheels. The result is the epitome of maritime opulence and exquisite material details.

The most powerful Lotus ever

British sports car manufacturer Lotus has just unveiled its most powerful road model ever, the Lotus Evora GT430 – and there is a limited edition of just 60 of these beautiful vehicles. Baroque Ground finds out all about them

lotus 3.jpg

First there was the Lotus Evora 400, followed by the equally successful and more powerful Evora Sport 410. And now British automaker Lotus has released their most powerful Evora ever, the limited edition Evora GT430. There are only 60 such sports cars being made, and they are touted to be the most innovative ever.

lotus 10.jpg

Combining elegance with power as only Lotus can, the new edition Evora has been meticulously manufactured, with special hand-crafted carbon fiber components and a level of precision engineering and design that is unmatched by the company. The ‘GT’ attached to its name pays tribute to the legendary Lotus Esprit V8 GT and the Esprit GT3 that were produced to much acclaim in the 1990s.

This magnificent two-seater sports vehicle is powered by a new iteration of the 3.5-liter V6 supercharged and charge-cooled engine, combined with a six-speed manual gearbox and a lightweight single-mass flywheel for swifter gear changes. Tests have shown that it produces 430hp, setting the car apart from all of its competitors in the current market. It goes from 0 to 60mph in a mere 3.7 seconds, and its top speed is 190mph (that’s 305km per hour).

lotus 4.jpg

Lotus is renowned for its lightweight engineering and this new sports vehicle is no exception, with a weight of just 1,258kg. The advanced aerodynamics used to create this extraordinary car includes exposed carbon weave sections in the body’s front and rear, generating up to 250kg of down force. In addition, there’s a carbon splitter, rear diffuser and huge rear wing, as well as air blades and louvers above the front wheels. The rear wheels have aero ducts behind them, which reduces pressure.

In addition, exposed-weave carbon is displayed across the body of the car, in the bumpers and the roof, rear wing and one-piece carbon tailgate. There’s more carbon inside, with lightweight carbon racing seats trimmed in red and black, and door sills as well as the instrument panel are also made using exposed carbon fiber. To make the car as luxurious as possible, the rest of the interior cabin is trimmed in the new owner’s choice of leather, Alcantara, or both.

According to CEO of Group Lotus, Jean-Marc Gales, the new Evora is “a landmark car for Lotus”, a legend in its own right. Only 60 vehicles will be hand-built in Norfolk, England and will be available to select markets around the world. As the Evora is already popular as a limited edition model, the new iteration is expected to be a collector’s dream.

In the lap of luxury – Audi A8

New on the road is the latest in luxury driving, the brand new Audi A8, a high tech vehicle that not only offers the plushest driving experience, but can also drive itself. Baroque Ground finds out all the details

The brand new Audi A8 is German motoring precision at its best and most luxurious. Recently unveiled, the car offers every imaginable high-tech feature, including a magnificent infotainment system, fully active electric suspension and a mild hybrid engine. But the highlight of this brand new offering is the fact that the Audi A8 is the first production vehicle in the world with Level 3 autonomy – yes, it’s one of the most highly automated cars on the road. Due to be available for purchase in 2018, the car is also the first to include self-drive software, which means it can literally drive on its own, a giant step forward in advanced driving technology.

OK, so it’s not going to race along when it’s driving by itself. Apparently the new Audi A8 will drive itself at a dignified 60 km per hour. As Audi explains, this means that the A8 has an autonomous feature; it can take control of driving in slow-moving traffic at up to 60km per hour. To do this, the driver activates a button on the center console to enable the vehicle to take over acceleration, braking, steering and starting from a dead stop. This is achieved through a combination of LIDAR, radar, a front-facing camera and ultrasonic sensors.

This mode, which Audi calls the ‘traffic jam pilot’, only works on highways where there is a physical barrier between the vehicle and oncoming traffic. Using this mode is also subject to the laws of the road in a particular jurisdiction where the car is being driven.

This puts Audi in the lead, ahead of Mercedes-Benz, Tesla and Cadillac when it comes to self-driving. However, Audi is rolling out its semi-autonomous Autopilot system very slowly. For the moment, it’s encouraging drivers to test out the Audi A8’s new self-parking feature while standing outside of the vehicle. This is do-able through a smartphone app – drivers can literally summon or park their car while watching a live display on their phone using the A8’s 360-degree camera. This self-parking feature does not use sensors, showing just how advanced Audi’s technology really is.

Another unique feature of the A8 is its 48-volt active, electro-mechanical suspension platform, whereby it can raise or lower each wheel separately with electric actuators depending on the driving situation. This can assist in avoiding collisions. On a lighter note, the new infotainment system features multiple touch screens and can be operated by voice control.

Of course, there’s more. The A8 also features all-wheel steering as well as rear seats that even offer a foot massage. This exceptional vehicle will be available in 2018, but if you would like more information on it, let Baroque Ground assist. Contact us right away,, and we will provide you with all the details you require, as well as information on how to purchase this exceptional new vehicle.

The all-electric Aston Martin

Feast your eyes on your dream vehicle – the luxury all-electric Aston Martin RapidE, which was developed as a concept car in 2015 and will be available to purchase next year. Baroque Ground has all the details

Finally, Aston Martin has confirmed the production of its first-ever all-electric model, less than two years after unveiling it as a concept car. The all-electric Rapid E will be produced in 2019, bringing a new era to this exceptional super car brand. Initially, Aston Martin will only produce 155 electric vehicles. This is the automakers first all-electric model and is the start of the brand’s foray into producing low- and zero-emission vehicles.

British vehicle manufacturers Aston Martin, which has been in existence for just over a century, is one of the world’s most famousluxury sports car brands. It initially worked together with UK-based Williams Advanced Engineering on the original RapidE concept car. They will also assist the automaker with the complex task of integrating engineering in these new vehicles. The newest addition to Aston Martin’s stable will be a four-door sports vehicle that features the looks and dynamics created by the brand’s Rapide S models. The new eco cars will be powered by an all-electric powertrain that will replace the Rapide S’s six-liter V12 engine. As a result, the RapidE will offer those lucky enough to purchase one of the 155 limited edition models a unique driving experience, one never before experienced by anyone who has had the fortune to own and/or drive an Aston Martin.

The RapidE concept was unveiled originally in October 2015, and the brand is very proud to have reached a new milestone in its history with confirmation of production of these all-electric cars come 2019. According to President and CEO of Aston Martin, Dr Andy Palmer, “RapidE represents a sustainable future in which Aston Martin’s values of seductive style and supreme performance don’t merely co-exist alongside a new zero-emission powertrain, but are enhanced by it.”

He explains how the internal combustion engine has been the core of the brand for over 100 years and believes this will continue into the future. Although radically different from its predecessors, the new RapidE will deliver a new breed of car “that stays true to our ethos and delights our customers.”

New drop-top Spider for McLaren

British automaker McLaren launched its drop-top version of the Spider at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this past weekend. Baroque Ground has all the details

The new 2018 drop-top sider variant of McLaren’s entry-level 570S mid-engine supercar revealed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed represents the third model in the brand’s entry level Sport series collection, which already includes the 540C, 570GT and the 570S Coupe.

The retractable drop-top is electrically operated, with a two-part folding mechanism that is similar to the one fitted on both the McLaren 650S and the 675LT Spiders. Opening and closing takes just 15 seconds in all, and can be operated even when the vehicle is moving if the speed is only up to 25mph.

Of course, the new model’s jaw-dropping features don’t stop there. Other specs for this new variant include a 562hp, 3.8-liter twin turbo V8 engine that literally races from 0 to 60mph in 3.1 seconds. You’ve heard these numbers before; they are identical to the coupe version. But the top speeds are different. This new drop-top model has a top speed of 204mph, but this slows down to 196mph when the top is down. It features a quick-shifting 7-speed gearbox that is rear wheel driven, and is loaded with McLaren’s high-tech performance wizardry in the form of a selection of driving modes and an excellent traction management system. Both of these features are identical to those in the Coupe.

Like all its supercar counterparts, the new Spider features an extremely strong MonoCell II carbon fiber passenger compartment and fully adjustable suspension. According to McLaren Automotive CEO, Mike Flewitt, “"The McLaren 570S Spider is a convertible without compromise. Its mid-engined layout and carbon fiber MonoCell II chassis guarantee the same thrilling dynamic performance and exceptional driver involvement enjoyed in a 570S coupe, but with the added attraction of roof-down motoring."

All 400 launch edition models will be priced from $208,000, making them the most affordable Mclaren vehicles ever made. They are currently available for order and will be delivered to customers in August.
