Audi will be adding to their growing lineup of off-road vehicles after announcing they are in advanced stages in the development of the Audi Q1, where it is slated for production in 2016.
The Q1 will be Audi’s entry-level SUV, offering both front-wheel and Quarttro-drivetrains. Using the Audi A1 as a guide, the Q1 should be available in diesel and petrol engines, with a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder featuring cylinder deactivation, and a 1.6-liter for diesel.
The decision to introduce the Q1 is most definitely spurred on by figures showing significant growth in the demand for its existing SUVs. Over the last six years, 1.5 million customers have bought an Audi off-roader, and Audi forecasts their SUV will make up at least 35 percent of their total sales.
The renders released conjures up comparisons to the Range Rover Evoque, and will definitely be vying with them for a share of this emerging market.
