British automaker Aston Martin plans to introduce a new SUV and a sports car to the market. Baroque Ground has all the details
Initially when Aston Martin revealed its luxurious Lagonda Taraf Luxury Super Sedan, the motor manufacturing company only planned to sell it in the Middle East. But the British supercar maker changed its tune, and later revealed that the stunning new sedan would also be sold in very limited numbers of just 200 to the UK, Europe and South Africa. Sadly, the US isn’t going to see this magnificent vehicle on its roads, as the current design doesn’t meet our regulatory standards, which differ from those of the rest of the world.
Of course, the auto industry has been abuzz about this. One of the reasons is that until quite recently, Aston Martin used to hand build its vehicle. But no longer. Although the company has still managed to retain a bespoke, exclusive feel to its models by releasing limited edition models such as this one. The new vehicle, which is believed to cost in the region of half a million US dollars, is nothing new by Aston Martin’s standards. The manufacturer has produced luxury models for over a century including its more readily available luxury coupes.
So what sets the Lagonda Taraf apart? For starters, it’s a re-introduction of the Lagonda, one of the brand’s more opulent sedans that are more luxurious and a little less sporty than the regular coupes. In addition, this Taraf is said to be the first of a range of Lagonda’s, and the others that will follow will be more readily available as well as more mainstream.
For the past few decades, Aston Martin became known for its expensive, fast coupes. The company is a small one, and it produced a few thousand each year. Unlike many competitors, Aston Martin isn’t owned by a giant global auto manufacturer, although Daimler does own a small stake in the company and is believed to be supplying engines for new future vehicles.
So what’s the plan? According to rumors, Aston Martin will continue to manufacture its well-known models, but is also planning to boost sales by adding an SUV, following in Porsche’s footsteps. Porsche, a brand renowned for its sports cars, has built a following with its SUVs, and it’s likely that Aston Martin will try to emulate this. The first SUV to come out of the Aston Martin stable will be called the DBX, and will be targeted at wealthy female buyers. In addition, the company plans to introduce a new range of sports cars and will continue to offer the exclusive Lagonda Taraf.
