In Denver, it’s all about the ART

Baroque Travel investigates Denver’s latest hotel, a unique establishment that is a combination of luxe accommodation and museum

Denver is taking commitment to the arts to a whole new level with its latest offering – the ART, a perfect mix of luxury hotel and art museum. This newly opened establishment boasts 165 sumptuous guest rooms and an ideal location in the midst of the city’s Golden Triangle Museum District.

Just in case anybody’s thinking that the masterpieces on the walls aren’t being taken very seriously, let’s add an important fact – the staff includes an art curator (of course) – in the person of Dianne Vanderlip, who was previously the long-time curator of the Denver Art Museum. In fact, Vanderlip has gathered a selection of art pieces together in the Portico Gallery which are well worth examining.

At the ART it’s difficult to tell where the gallery space ends and the hotel begins, because the establishment is in essence one and the same. The ART elevates the art pieces on the walls of hotels to a very different level. The collection here is world-class and includes notable pieces from influential American artists such as Andy Warhol, Tracey Emin, Sol De Witt, Ed Ruscha, Nancy Rubins, Deborah Butterfield, Kiki Smith and Claus Oldenberg.

There are two dedicated gallery spaces within the hotel, including the Portico Gallery mentioned above. But that’s not all – contemporary artworks are visible throughout the building and include design elements such as the light from 22 000 LED light bulbs in the entrance hall, a spectacular undulating art installation by Leo Villareal that was designed specifically for the ART. In addition, each floor of the establishment features the creations of a particular artist in the hallways as well as in the rooms, adding to the aesthetics of the interior design.

Living in a museum has its advantages of course – you don’t have to go far to enjoy one of the city’s cultural attractions. Of course, the ART is all about offering its guests much more than a cultural experience. This luxurious hotel offers the perfect blend of refined comfort and personalized service. Design is contemporary and modern, with every high tech amenity available. And that’s not all. Cuisine at the FIRE Restaurant is of the finest in the city, accommodation is of the most comfortable on offer and the service is quite sublime.

From the personalized check-in in the Welcome Gallery to panoramic city views on the expansive FIRE terrace, the ART has it all. The atmosphere is sophisticated but very relaxed, intimate and authentic, making it the ideal location for a business trip or a holiday.

If you’d like to enjoy a unique experience at the ART, let Baroque Travel arrange everything for you. Just contact us right away, info@baroquetravel.com and we will do the rest.

A scenic escape in Napa Valley, the Meadowood Resort & Spa

Meadowood is a plush resort in the Napa Valley, a popular retreat for those in the know that offers a one-of-a-kind experience. Here, guests enjoy some of the valley’s legendary wines and get time to savor its scenic beauty while being pampered with every possible luxury.

It’s true what the brochure says. The moment you drive through the gate at Meadowood, the clock stops. Suddenly you’re in charge of the time, of when you dine, when it’s time to sample some of the valley’s superb wines, when it’s time to play a round of golf, go swimming or hiking, play tennis, or be pampered at the spa.

Yes, life at Meadowood is at its own gentle place. It’s an experience enjoyed by the privileged few who come here to be pampered in luxury; the resort has remained a romantic, hidden gem that, once discovered, becomes a regular retreat because of its special qualities. Nowhere else invites its guests to tailormake their holiday to suit their every whim, nowhere else offers the same kind of opportunity to sample and enjoy the wines that the Napa Valley is so famous for.

Of course, the accommodation is exceptional, with a wide selection of sumptuous suites to suit every taste. The amenities are so varied, it will be difficult to know which to choose, from golf, tennis, croquet and hiking to fitness, spa, cooking classes and wine experiences. The restaurant has been awarded three Michelin Stars, which is another major drawcard. In fact, there isn’t just one reason to visit this stunning establishment – there are numerous reasons, each more enticing than the last.

It’s hard to know what to choose when it comes to accommodation, because each offering is plush, individual, magical and stylish. Whether you choose a cosy cottage for the two of you, an elegant suite that exudes chic and glamour, or a spacious lodge to accommodate the whole family, you’ll find that all of them offer the utmost privacy in an idyllic forested setting. In winter, fireplaces add a romantic glow, and year-round the private terraces provide spectacular views, and a spot to spend in quiet contemplation or dining a deux. Of course, amenities are world-class and superlative, so you’ll find it difficult to leave your room or suite. But do take advantage of everything the hotel has to offer, including a stunning pool area, state-of-the-art spa and a fully equipped fitness center.

The golf course at Meadowood is legendary, and the choice of sports facilities a joy for those who enjoy being active. But if you want to spend your time relaxing and doing as little as possible, you can do that, too. As long as you find the time to enjoy a wine-tasting or two, of savoring those legendary wines that have made the Napa Valley such a sought-after destination.

If you’d like to book a stay at this stunning luxury retreat, Baroque Travel will arrange it for you, contact us at info@baroquetravel.com right away!

New York EDITION finally opens its doors

Manhattan’s latest luxury hotel, the New York EDITION, opened its doors last week Thursday with a star-studded party. Baroque Travel has all the details

5 Madison Avenue was the place to be on Thursday May 14, as celebrities and super stars such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Alexa Chung, Tobey Maguire and Chrissy Teigen got together to celebrate the opening of the plush and extraordinary New York EDITION.

W Magazine took over the Clocktower Restaurant’s three dining rooms where guests enjoyed delicacies prepared by Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton. Then, as the clock struck 10, they explored the hotel’s lobby, billiards room, upstairs and downstairs bars. DJ Q-Tip kept the music going, and the party went on till 4am. The following day, EDITION’s hotelier, Ian Schrager came to assess the damages. Schrager is the mastermind behind three unique hotels now found worldwide (the first was in London, the second is in Miami and the New York EDITION is the third) which he created in collaboration with Marriott International.

Schrager is believed to have said that the party was a huge success, and that’s coming from the man who made his name by creating Studio 54, one of the most iconic clubs in the world.

The hotel itself epitomises everything that we have come to expect from the EDITION brand. It offers a unique hotel experience, with personalized service and a design ethic that is quite unique. And then there’s the food, which is quite sublime, and entertainment offerings that are a cut above anything else on offer. The hotels are also quite unique and distinct – as Schrader wanted, they are all one of a kind. Guests enjoy exceptional facilities, services and amenities, a luxury offering that will see the hotel group grow to be one of the most competitive in the market.

The New York EDITION is housed in a 41-story clock tower that was originally erected in 1909 as HQ for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. This historic building is a NYC landmark that has now been transformed into a plush hotel with 273 guest rooms and suites all offering spectacular city views. The Clocktower Restaurant, run by Jason Atherton is located on the second floor, decorated with exquisite mahogany wood paneling and exquisite works of art. The hotel also boasts two bars as well as a state-of-the-art spa and fitness center which are both located on the 39th floor.

Located directly opposite Madison Square Park, this magnificent hotel is pet friendly, and offers a selection of luxury facilities, including 28-inch flat screen HDTVs in the rooms with cable access, high definition channels and movies on demand, not to mention custom-made Le Labo bathroom amenities with a signature scent that is exclusive to EDITION.

If you’d like to book your room at this brand new iconic establishment, contact Baroque Travel at  info@baroquetravel.com right away and we will arrange it for you.

Four of the most popular luxury hotels in NYC

During Baselworld in March this year, Forbes magazine quizzed more than 50 luxury watch and jewelry execs about their best luxury hotel in NYC. Baroque Travel takes a look at the four top hotels on their list

 The Mandarin Oriental

The Mandarin Oriental

Top of the list is the magnificent Peninsula New York, closely followed by the Waldorf Astoria, The Standard High Line and the Mandarin Oriental.

The Peninsula New York

Apparently the reason everybody loves the luxurious Peninsula is because of their rooftop bar, Salon de Ning, where one can enjoy drinks on the open-air deck after a hard day and enjoy a panoramic view of the city below. The spa, which we featured in depth last week as one of the best locations to spend Mother’s Day, with an idyllic setting high above Fifth Avenue, is another reason the hotel is so popular. In fact, the Peninsula Spa is one of the most popular hotel spas in the city. Of course, the Peninsula’s location on Fifth Avenue and being centrally situated in the heart of Midtown, makes it a perfect choice.

Mandarin Oriental, New York

The Mandarin Oriental is one of the three hotels voted joint second on the list of popular luxury places to stay in Manhattan. One of the reasons this sleek, sumptuous establishment is a sought-after destination are the spectacular city views from the sumptuous rooms and suites and the hotel’s sleek, modern design. Of course, it does help that the hotel is extremely chic and stylish, and its location on top of the Time Warner Center offers breathtaking views of Central Park and gives guests access to most of the city’s major attractions, including Broadway, Lincoln Center and Fifth Avenue.

Like the Peninsula, the Mandarin Oriental also boasts a spectacular spa with six treatment rooms and a Thai Yoga room for private yoga classes, VIP Spa Suite, vitality pools and steam rooms. Of course, there’s a state-of-the-art fitness center on the premises, too.

The Standard, High Line

Located in the Meatpacking District, the sumptuous Standard High Line is a hip location that appeals to the young, and the young-at-heart. It’s also in the center of a variety of entertainment that appeals to the younger set, and offers floor to ceiling windows from every room offering spectacular views. The hotel also boasts its own ice skating rink, a 24-hour gym, and a popular rooftop bar and creperie, making it a lively location for after hours fun. Guests have use of bicycles free of charge to get around the city, another plus if you’re in the mood for exploring.

Waldorf Astoria, New York

Fans of the Waldorf Astoria love the hotel because of its classic and historic appeal. At this landmark hotel, guests enjoy a traditional luxury experience that many stars and celebrities have also experienced. Its location on Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan is another major draw card, as is the level of service, the variety of restaurants and bars on offer, and the cachet of staying in such a legendary establishment.

Opening this May – Marmara Park Avenue

NYC’s latest hotel to open its doors is a cut above the rest – not only does it have a prestigious Park Avenue address, but it was made locally by expert artisans in the five boroughs. Baroque Travel investigates

From the magnificent 14-foot fireplace in the lobby to the exquisite, hand-picked furniture all custom-created for the prestigious Marmara Park Avenue by local New Yorkers. NYC artist and designer, Joe Ginsberg not only custom-made the superlative furniture in the hotel, he was responsible for leading the other arts and craftsmen through their paces to create this plush, modern establishment. The hotel, which opens in May, was designed to reflect a chic pied-a-terre that would fit in with others of its ilk in Manhattan. And it does this with aplomb.

All areas in the hotel are spacious with high ceilings, including the hotels 128 guest rooms, suites and three sumptuous penthouses. The décor is sophisticated, edgy and stylish, indicative of ultra-luxury Manhattan hotels.

Set in the heart of the city in dynamic East Midtown, the hotel is located in a historic 21-storied building that was originally erected in 1927. Impeccably stylish and unashamedly plush, The Marmara Park Avenue stands proud, waiting to become another NYC landmark that is as feted as the best. In keeping with the design, which is both innovative and decidedly local, the hotel is also welcoming and comfortable and pulls out all the stops to make guests feel right at home. Although tranquil and polished, it retains a sense of being a retreat, a refuge from the noise and bustle of the city that is renowned for never sleeping.

Aside from offering unparalleled views of the city from every window, the hotel is also known for its meticulous attention to detail. All the guest accommodation occupies the 12th to the 17th floors in the hotel. Rooms are light, spacious and ultra luxurious, with huge beds, exquisite, comfortable linen, en suite marble bathrooms and every facility, including in-room iPad Air, LED TVs, free WiFi and much more. Forty of the suites have their own private terrace, offering a plush idyll, a sanctum from the city, a real home from home environment.

Facilities include a sophisticated lobby lounge, restaurant, wellness center and state of the art gymnasium that is open 24 hours a day, with indoor pool, sauna and steam rooms.

The hotel is ideally located in the heart of Nomad (North of Madison Square Park) at Park Avenue and 32nd Street. It also boasts a sister hotel in the historically wealthy neighborhood on New York’s Upper East Side, at 94th Street and Second Avenue.
