One of the first resorts in the British Virgin Islands to reopen after the havoc wreaked by Hurricane Irma is the luxurious residential and resort community located on the eastern tip of Virgin Gorda, Oil Nut Bay
From 16 December 2017 onwards, Oil Nut Bay reopens its Beach Club, restaurant, resort amenities and marina after cleaning up and restoring the property after the damage created by Hurricane Irma. The resort is already open to its owners of residential properties and is set to start renting villas once again from March 2018.
The property was luckily not heavily damaged. The resort’s infrastructure and buildings were still intact following a direct hit from Hurricane Irma and the 200-plus mile-per-hour winds. This is because every structure at Oil Nut Bay was built taking nature’s forces into account.
Oil Nut Bay has a unique location on the eastern tip of Virgin Gorda and is accessible only by helicopter or boat. Part of the pristine British Virgin Islands, the region is also home to Richard Branson’s Necker Island and Eustatia, a private retreat owned by billionaire Larry Page, who founded Google.
Oil Nut Bay spans 300 acres and offers numerous villas and suites that are snapped up by world-famous celebrities and well-heeled travellers. The property is owned by American developer David V.Johnson, acclaimed for his landmark $1 billion Bay Harbor waterside community on the shores of Lake Michigan. It took him a decade to find the Virgin Gorda property, where he spends most of the year and created his final project, Oil Nut Bay.
The villas are located throughout the resort in seven different areas, and all offer magnificent views across the Caribbean. Many are so well hidden amongst the lush vegetation that they are difficult to see, and it’s that seclusion that makes them so sought-after by buyers who are prepared to pay between $5 and $25 million for one.
Also available for rent are the three Cliff Suites, which are more compact than the villas, but equally stylish and plush. They are carved into the rocky southeast coast and feature their own swimming pools. The Cliff Penthouse interiors were designed by Fendi Casa… The space is filled with leather furniture and Murano glass chandeliers. Need we say more?
All the villas and suites on this spectacular, exclusive resort have been designed with an emphasis on environmental care. Solar power, water management and low-density planning are all key elements of this exceptional resort.
Guests here are pampered by a dedicated concierge team. They enjoy a variety of water sports, including paddle boarding, kayaking and sailing and there are numerous beach activities including volleyball and ladder golf as well as tennis and pickle-ball courts. Guests can also enjoy sunrise yoga and a state-of-the-art spa.
