Japanese cuisine on its own is glorious, unusual, delicious and fresh. Nobu Restaurants have taken Japanese cuisine to another level entirely with their signature blend of contemporary Japanese and Latin American flavors. It sounds strange, but the taste sensation seems to have caught on world-wide. After all, the first Nobu Restaurant opened in 1994, and two decades on, there are 29 of them around the globe including a number in the US (the first of them all is located in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood) and others in Asia, Australia, the Middle East, Southern Africa and Europe.

 Nobu’s latest incarnation, which opened in September this year, will fit in perfectly in Kuala Lumpur’s exciting restaurant scene, where experimentation and superb creations are the norm. With KL’s international audience and its innovative menu, the success of Nobu KL is assured. Of course, as the franchise is co-owned by US actor Robert de Niro, that also helps, too (he’s been an investor from the get-go). And did we mention, the restaurant is named after its founder, Michelin-starred Japanese chef Nobu Matsuhisa? This particular restaurant is also the first branch in Southeast Asia, and the Chef, Philip Leong, has worked with Nobu since 2005. Of course, there are other Nobu restaurants in Asia proper – you’ll find one in Hong Kong, another in Beijing, and others in Tokyo and Manila.

 Located on the 56th floor of the Menara Petronas 3, the restaurant offers panoramic 360-deegree views of the city – so make sure you have your camera ready. Part of your view will include the city’s iconic landmark, the Petronas Twin Towers, which is well worth a photograph or two.

 As expected, the setting is stylish and trendy, in monochromatic neutral shades of brown and beige, and the food is as sublime. As Nobu’s menu is very extensive, it’s best to ask your waiter for advice on what’s most popular. Head Chef Philip Leong has kept his promise and the restaurant’s combination of Peruvian and South American flavors are exceptional. Although it’s easy to stick to Nobu’s more famous dishes, try and be adventurous. After all, it’s not often you can combine sushi, tempura and sashimi with Tacos. We heartily recommend some of the restaurants specialties such as Tuna or King Crab Tacos, Peruvian-style Sushi. The combination is a delightful adventure, and if you don’t approve – there’s always Nobu’s bountiful variety offered in their famous Bento Box.

 You won’t be disappointed when it comes to dessert. Nobu offers a choice of Western-style delights with Japanese flavors. And talking of the Bento Box, their dessert offering is quite sublime. Amongst its delights you’ll find hot chocolate fondant served with white chocolate sauce, and Shiso Syrup served with Matcha Ice Cream.
