This week, on Tuesday 21 February 2017, the final voting for the Oscars closes ahead of the 89th Academy Awards to be held this coming weekend, on February 26, 2017. The 89th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to honor the best films of 2016, will take place on February 26 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. From the moment the final voting closes on 21 February, the parties start. So let’s take a look at what’s happening this week in the build-up to the weekend’s Academy Awards ceremony.

A list of some of the Oscar parties worth attending
Tuesday 21 Feb
5.30pm: At the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Wilshire Boulevard, the 19th Annual Costume Designer Guild Awards will applaud nominees such as costume designer Jeffrey Kurland who will receive the Career Achievement Award, Meryl Streep, who will take home the Distinguished Collaborator Award and illustrator and costume designer Lois DeArmond who will receive the Distinguished Service Award.
6pm: Charles Finch will be hosting a cocktail party at the KP Gallery to unveil a photographic exhibition featuring ‘on set’ pictures from the golden age of cinema. The collection includes pictures of Audrey Hepburn and Bridget Bardot, Quentin Tarantino dancing behind the scenes with Uma Thurman and John Travolta, and many more memorable images. The exhibition will run until 26 February, with proceeds going to support the Ghetto Film School.
7pm: At the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Deadpool director Tim Miller will host Oscar Week Shorts with screenings and onstage panel discussions of the nominees for live-action and animated shorts. The director is a nominee for the animated short, Gopher Broke.
Wednesday 22 Feb
7pm: Ladies, why not head for the Beverly Wilshire tonight to attend Alfred Woodard and Farfetch’s Oscar’s Sistahs Soiree to honor female Oscar nominees Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Naomi Harris and Ruth Negga as well as NAACP nominee Aja Naomi King of Birth of a Nation fame.
Thursday 23 Feb
8pm: Luxury vehicle manufacturers Cadillac are hosting a star-studded event at Chateau Marmont tonight. If last year’s party is any reflection, there will be plenty of stars attending, not to mention many industry power players.
Friday 24 Feb
Tonight at the Fig & Olive in West Hollywood at 5pm, the British Consul General, Chris O’Connor will be toasting British nominees such as Naomi Harris (Moonlight) and Dev Patel (Lion) plus composer Micachu, who created the score for the movie Jackie.
Saturday 25 Feb
10.30am: Cocktails and 2pm: Show
The Beach in Santa Monica is the place to be today, when Nick Kroll and John Mulaney bring their Broadway act to the Spirit Awards, one of the rare, really fun awards shows of the year. Full of fun, alcohol and laughter, this is show is a must.
Sunday 26 Feb
4pm: Today on Oscar Sunday, the place to see and be seen if you’re not actually attending the Awards Ceremony is the 25th Annual Elton John Aids Foundations Academy Awards Viewing Party, held at West Hollywood Par. NFL Champ owner, Robert Kraft is just one of the regulars at this event, which is full of TV, media, film and sports donors and supporters. While they raise money, there’s a dedicated feed of the ABC telecast. In the past, Elton John, David Furnish and EJAF have raised more then $350 million for various resources to end the AIDS epidemic. The evening includes a multi-course dinner prepared by Gordon Ramsay and a fun ballot contest with stunning prizes. The sponsors include Bulgari, Neuro Drinks and Diana Jenkins and co-sponsors are Audi, Mac Viva Glam and StyleHaul.
4pm in NYC and 7pm in London:
The Academy hosts Oscar Night in the Rainbow Room NYC and the Ham Yard Hotel in Soho, London, official viewing parties for invited guests and industry members. London’s event, hosted by Rolex, includes a midnight feast. Guests will watch the Oscars telecast, from the red carpet to the Best Picture Award, streamed live on a big screen. Guests at the NYC event will enjoy a menu inspired by Executive Chef Jim Botsacos.
After-party highlight: The Governors Ball
Once the Academy Awards Ceremony is over, numerous stars and winners will head for the Ray Dolby Ballroom to enjoy the Oscars Governors Ball official after-party. Chef Wolfgang Puck will be preparing more than 50 dishes.
