Formula 1 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix

Since the mid 1990s, Malaysia has offered a most unique Formula One experience. Sadly, the race, scheduled from 29 September to 01 October 2017, will be the country’s last. Baroque Access finds out all the details

Malaysia F1 4.jpg

It’s the last time that Malaysia will host the Formula One Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix, so if you haven’t experienced this unique event in Asia, we suggest you pack your bags and head over there right away. The 2017 race, which is the 19th annual race in Sepang, Malaysia, is likely to go out with a lot of fanfare. You wouldn’t want to miss it!

Malaysia F1 2014.jpg

For almost two decades, Malaysia has played host to the exciting Petronas Formula One Grand Prix, which is a fun-filled event for fans of all ages. Aside from the Formula One race at Sepang International Circuit, which is the obvious highlight, there are numerous other events and promotions that take place beforehand and afterwards, attracting thousands to the circuit to enjoy what’s on offer.

The reason the race is so unique is that the circuit is unusual. It’s one of the most technical of its kind in Formula One. Created with a selection of long high-speed straights and tight twisting complexes, the track is also one of the most complicated in the world. Luckily, overtaking is easy for the experienced drivers, as the track is very wide.  The race itself takes place over 56 laps, 5.543km each, with a total distance of 310.408km. The record for one lap is one minute, 34.223 seconds, achieved in 2004 by Juan Pablo Montoya.

If you are planning to visit the race, or want to know what to expect so that you can catch the highlights on TV, take a look at the schedule below. Please note that this timetable is subject to change.

It’s almost that time of year again, when Singapore comes to life as fans from all over the world descend on the city to enjoy the FIA Formula One World Championship Grand Prix. Baroque Access finds out what’s happening this year

SINGAPORE F1 8.jpg

Come mid-September, the Marina Bay Street Circuit will be full of fans who have come to watch the inaugural Formula One night race at Asia’s first street circuit for F1 races. The first time the race was held at night was in Singapore in 2008. Now, almost a decade later, the 5,065km Marina Bay Circuit is still lit up with state-of-the-art lighting and the Formula One night race has become a highlight on the F1 calendar.

Singapore F1 11.jpg

It’s set against the brilliant backdrop of Singapore’s downtown area, and offers drivers and spectators a beautiful view of this exotic city as the cars race past a selection of city landmarks such as the historic City Hall and the more modern Esplanade. The circuit is technically challenging, testing the drivers and their super cars that reach a maximum speed of 300km per hour. Now there’s a new road forming part of the circuit – it’s 1.2km in length and makes up part of the circuit’s eastern section next to the pit building.

The strategically located grandstands and hospitality suites offer the perfect platform to view this exciting race and enjoy an unforgettable Formula One experience. Enjoy the US Open in style

If you’re heading for New York City at the end of the month to attend one of the sporting highlights of the year, the US Open, Baroque Access has all the details for you. In addition, we have found two luxury accommodation offerings to make your stay even more special

From 28 August to 10 September, tennis aficionados will flock to NYC to attend the US Open. If you’re one of the thousands who will be arriving in Manhattan for this auspicious event, let’s take a look at what you can look forward to.

This, the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the 2017 tennis season, begins with the Qualifying Tournament on Tuesday, 22 August, which continues until Friday 25 August. The real deal kicks off the following Monday, on 28 August, and the highlight, of course, is the culmination of the tournament, including the Women’s Final on Saturday 9 September, and the Men’s Final, the following day, Sunday the 10th.

The tournament has been held every year since 1978 on outdoor hard courts at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing in Queens, New York, and this year is no exception. The 2017 US Open is the 137th edition of the US Open, that includes the main events discussed above, as well as junior, wheelchair and exhibition events.

There’s lots of speculation about who will take the crowns from Stan Wawrinka and Angelique Kerber, the current reigning men’s and women’s singles champions. Wawrinka is not playing this year: he withdrew due to a knee injury before the start of the tournament.

Where to stay during the US Open

Before we give you the schedule for the US Open, let’s talk about two special luxury accommodation options that are up for grabs. The first is an exclusive package that starts from $30,000, entitled ‘The VIP Treatment to the US Open’. It includes a stay at the magnificent GuestHouse at Dream Downtown for three nights, with two tickets to enjoy the US Open. Guests also get all sorts of spoils, including a butler service at the hotel, a private cabana at The Beach at Dream Downtown, personal driver, champagne and fresh strawberries on arrival, up to three free seats on empty leg flights visiting the US and Europe, complimentary seats on select shuttle routes such as South Florida-NYC, Atlanta-NYC, Boston-NYC etc, and all sorts of other major perks.

Another hotel, the magnificent Baccarat Hotel, is offering a very special treat for those coming to the city to enjoy the Men’s Final of the US Open on 10 September. The offer is for two guests to spend the night in a Classic Suite at this luxury Manhattan property; this will set them back just over $12,000. The hotel itself is a must-see, an establishment that celebrates Baccarat’s fine heritage as a legendary maker of crystal in its design. It offers plush accommodation and numerous superlative dining and entertainment options, as well as a chauffeur-driven limo drive to and from the US Open event, VIP entry and courtside tickets. And don’t forget the gourmet lunch or dinner and premium bar service throughout the match.

Take a look at the full schedule for the US Open, below, and then contact Baroque Access right away, info@baroqueaccess.com, if you have any queries or require further information. If you’d like to book one of the two special hotel offers listed here, contact our sister company, Baroque Travel, info@baroquetravel.com, who can also assist with all your travel arrangements, such as flights, transfers and anything else you may require.

The city in the desert - Burning Man 2017

It’s a city in the desert, an emotive spiritual experience, a culture of possibility. It’s Burning Man 2017, a network of dreamers and doers. And it’s waiting for you in Black Rock Desert, Nevada at the end of the month. Baroque Access finds out everything you need to know

Burning Man 2017 invites participants to create interactive rites, ritual processions, elaborate images, shrines, icons, temples and visions. Like every year before this one, tens of thousands of people will gather in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert and create Black Rock City, a temporary metropolis that is dedicated to everything spiritual and creative – community, art, self-expression and self-reliance.

Like any other city in the world, Black Rock City has an essential infrastructure and offers community services, such as city planning, safety, emergency and sanitary infrastructures, all of which are primarily volunteer-run.

Those who join Burning Man are not simply visitors to Black Rock City; they are active participants. They create this extraordinary city, the art, the interaction, the performance and ultimately the experience that we all call Burning Man. By participating, you give part of yourself to the larger community, a gift that is for everybody’s mutual benefit. This fantastic form of self-expression is, to many, a way of life.

The theme for 2017 is ‘In Search of the Sacred’, a spirit that will be released in the Black Rock Desert.

The theme uses the following quote by Johan Huizinga, a Dutch historian and one of the founders of modern cultural history: “There is no formal difference between play and ritual, so the consecrated spot cannot be formally distinguished from the playground. The arena, the card table, the magic circle… all are in form and function playgrounds, ie forbidden spots, isolated, hedged round, hallowed, within which special rules obtain. All are temporary worlds within the ordinary world, dedicated to the performance of an act apart.”

Sacred things appear to come from another place that is beyond the bounds of space and time. At Burning Man, the inhabitants will throw open a window on another world where sacred release powerful emotions: joy, awe, wonder, dread, even pure exaltation.

This year’s Burning Man will concentrate on the immediate experience of play, which breaks down the distinction that divides belief from make-believe. Whole-hearted and creative play induces self-surrender to experience that is beyond the scope of reasoned thought.

From the playful invitation to make angels in the dust that greets participants of Burning Man as they enter Black Rock City, to the Temple Burn that signals the festival’s end, Burning Man is full of rituals, rites that depict the desire to belong to a place, a time, to others, to something that is greater than ourselves, even in the midst of impermanence.

Come and participate in Burning Man, a collaborative endeavour that brings together people of differing backgrounds, interests, outlooks and skills. To be part of this creative community, let Baroque Access assist. Contact us right away, while there is still time, info@baroqueacces.com to find out all the details of the 2017 Burning Man. If you need assistance with travel arrangements, let our sister company, Baroque Travel assist. Mail them now, info@baroquetravel.com.

London City Concours 2017

Next month, a new motoring event, London’s City Concours will take center stage, featuring over 100 supercars and classic vehicles as well as displays from numerous international luxury brands. Baroque Ground finds out all the details

If you’re planning to be in London on 8 & 9 June 2017, make some time to visit London’s inaugural City Concours which takes place at the headquarters of the Honorable Artillery Company, displaying numerous rare and exclusive cars, including iconic vehicles from the 1950s to the present day. These include the legendary Mercedes 300SL ‘Gullwing’, a Jaguar XJ220 as well as a Ferrari LaFerrari and the McLaren P1.

Aside from these gems, numerous top-end automotive brands will also have several vintage cars on display including partners such as Jaguar specialist Clayton Classics, Nicholas Mee, specialist for Aston Martin, classic car expert Fiskens and luxury car dealerships Romans and Stratstone.

A highlight of the event will be the breakfast hosted every morning by auction host RM Sotheby’s in conjunction with champagne brand Taittinger, who will have its own tent at the event. In addition, various luxury brands will also be on display including Mason & Sons, official outfitters to the City Concours, who will be showing off their luxury menswear collection. There will also be a selection of fine food stalls at the event.

The Honorable Artillery Company boasts a stunning five-acre property surrounded by historic buildings in the heart of London’s legendary Square Mile, close to numerous landmarks such as the Barbican.. The City Concours is being arranged by Thorough Events, a company that holds various Elegance events at Royal venues around the United Kingdom as well as the Gulf Concours at Dubai’s Burj Al Arab.

The cars on display have been divided into different categories. They include ‘Alternative Power’, ‘American Muscle’,  ‘Evolution of the Supercar’, ‘F1 Hall of Fame’, ‘The Swinging Sixties’ and ‘Speed’, amongst others. Aside from classic vehicles, there will be a number of new automobiles, such as the Touring Superleggera Disco Volante Spyder, which was built by hand and is one of only seven in the world. The car, whose design is inspired by the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante of the 1950s, will be shown in the ‘Modern Bespoke’ category. In the ‘Legends of Le Mans’ category, the most original and successful Jaguar D-Type in existence, the ‘RSF 303’ will be on display. This legendary vehicle finished second at Le Mans in 1957.

If you would like to find out more about the vehicles on display at London Concours, or those on sale, let Baroque Ground assist. Monaco Grand Prix

The motoring world is gearing up for the 75th annual Monaco Grand Prix in May, a major highlight of Formula 1 for the year. Baroque Access has all the details

monaco-gp-10.jpg

The Grand Prix in Monaco epitomizes everything that’s exciting about Formula 1 racing… aside from the speed, the noise and the hint of danger, there’s the glamor and the passion that makes this particular Formula 1 Race stand out from the rest. The Principality of Monaco itself epitomizes everything that is glamorous and beautiful, and the reigning Grimaldi family has made this a highlight of the social calendar since its inception in 1929.

So what makes this Grand Prix so special? For starters, there’s the track, one of the most challenging on the calendar, a route that has stayed largely unchanged since it was first introduced 75 years ago. Then there’s the glamor factor, with celebrities, stars and royalty heading to Monaco specifically to watch the event. Notable actors and actresses who return time and again include George Clooney, Liz Hurley and Brad Pitt, whilst sports stars and billionaires are also usually in abundance.

Another reason that Monaco is so popular is the heady location itself. It’s right next door to the Cote d’Azur, France’s jet set vacation destination for the summer, and the beaches, the atmosphere, the weather and the entertainment is geared towards ensuring that time spent here is full of fun.

Important tips for those attending the Monaco Grand Prix

  • Remember – the action on track starts a day earlier, which is different from every other Formula 1 race. In Monaco, the first day of practice is on Thursday (see schedule below). Friday is traditionally a rest day for the participants, and the ideal time to explore this magnificent little country. What to do: explore the harbour and stroll around the Palais du Prince, the Grimaldi family’s official residence for the past seven centuries.
  • In Monaco you can’t buy a general admission ticket to the race. You need to book a grandstand seat – and the cost of this depends on where you are around the lap.
  • A highlight of the weekend is time spent at the Amber Lounge, a top nightspot in the city.
  • Try to get accommodation in Monaco itself – the closer to the track, the better. One of the top favorites is the Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo, located in Monaco’s Golden Square, which has an ideal location directly above the slowest and most dangerous turn on the track. If you’re staying there, you can and enjoy some of the best views of the race from the Dom Perignon Lounge. Alternatively, your guest room balcony is a good choice, or there’s the outdoor terrace of the hotel’s Michelin-starred Restaurant Joel Robuchon.

2018 Lexus LS500h to debut at 2017 Geneva Motor Show

2018 Lexus LS500h to debut at 2017 Geneva Motor Show

Not only is the Geneva International Motor Show one of the highlights of the motoring calendar; it’s also the only international motor show recognized by the International Organization of Automobile Constructors (OICA) and is also a member of the ‘Top 5’ worldwide. This event is where the international automotive industry showcases the most innovative and glamorous products created for the coming year.

Last year’s show was packed with 700,000 visitors, including 690,000 spectators and 10,000 media who were presented with over 130 World and European Premiers. Interestingly enough, 45% of the visitors came from countries around the world, which confirmed the international stature of this famous motor show. Aside from international automobile manufacturers, suppliers, tuners and so on, many celebrities also attend every year, making this the most prestigious automobile event on the motoring show calendar.

In 2017, the automobile halls (Halls 1 to 6) will be much as they were in 2016; manufacturers traditionally confirm their participation from one year to the next, and for this reason also choose to keep their location in the halls the same so that visitors know where to find them. The most popular stands are those along the partitions, as they can be expanded to two storeys by building a floor above the original.

TAG Heuer Exhibition at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show

As in previous years, Hall 7 is dedicated to Swiss automobile manufacturers who exhibit vehicles and accessories made in their home country. To allow more exhibitors to show their products, a new concept has been developed for 2017 for Hall 7 exhibitors that will enable them to have space for part of the Motor Show, or the full duration, depending on what they prefer. So if you are going to attend, take note: from 9 to 13 March, various exhibitors will be showing their products for a short time on modular stands.

2016 Geneva Motor Show

2016 Geneva Motor Show

As in previous years, this year’s Motor Show will also feature a program of conferences and round tables. This year’s show will offer the opportunity to discover more than 900 new vehicle models as well as over 100 innovative trends, including the latest in eco-friendly technology. Top vehicle manufacturers will present the current highlights from their range of models as well as their latest advances in the field of sustainable mobility, will a range of all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Another highlight will be the new SUV’s created by leading manufacturers to compete in what is becoming a very popular sector of the market.

There is still time to book your tickets to this popular international Motor Show, as well as arrange hotel reservations, flights, transfers and anything else you may require. NAIAS 2017 - Audi debut and other highlights

It’s all happening in Detroit this January as the largest ever concentration of top automotive and technology execs in the world gather with designers, engineers and trendsetters to attend the annual North American International Auto Show. Baroque Ground finds out some of the 2017 highlights

AUDI Q8 CONCEPT

AUDI Q8 CONCEPT

The annual North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) is the largest and most prestigious automotive showcase in North America.  In 2016, NAIAS introduced 61 brand new vehicles, many of which were world debuts. This year, once again, over 5,000 media from 60 different countries around the world will attend the show, which, now that it has integrated with AutoMobili-D, will be the world’s leading showcase of cars and motoring technology. The 2017 show will feature more than 750 vehicles and countless interactive displays.

What sets NAIAS apart from other motor shows is that it actually presents not one, but six unique shows in one. These include the superlative luxury automotive event, The Gallery, AutoMobili-D, which offers an inside look at future mobility platforms, not to mention the Press, Industry and Charity Previews, and finally, the 9-day Public Show.

NAIAS 2016

NAIAS 2016

Kicking off the NAIAS is the plush The Gallery event, which is celebrating its 10th year. It is once again hosted at the luxurious MGM Grand Detroit and includes a dinner in the Ignite Lounge prepared by world-famous chef Wolfgang Puck. Afterwards, guests can stroll through the MGM Grand’s Ballroom to see a display of the almost $7 million collection of incredible cars, including prestigious brands such as Bentley, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls Royce and Porsche.

AUTOMOBILI-D RENDERING AT NAIAS 2017

AUTOMOBILI-D RENDERING AT NAIAS 2017

Collaborating with NAIAS for the first time and running in conjunction with the Show, the Automobili-D will take place from 8 to 12 January, 2017. It will focus on the rapidly changing global car and mobility landscape and will feature over 100 firms, including car manufacturers, top suppliers and tech start-ups.

Press Days are on 9 and 10 January 2017, Industry Days follow on the 11th and 12th and there will be specific press conferences for participating AutoMobili-D companies on the afternoons of both Press Days.

LEXUS TO DEBUT AT NAIAS 2017

LEXUS TO DEBUT AT NAIAS 2017

On 13 January 2017, the Charity Preview will be held, an opportunity to raise funds for a wide selection of children’s charities in southeastern Michigan. Since it started in 1976, Charity Preview has raised over $106 million.

The public is then able to attend the show from 14 to 22 January 2017, to see the vehicles and technologies that will shape the automobile landscape close up. For the first week, from 14 to 21 January, admittance is from 9am to 10pm. On Sunday 22 January, the show is open from 9am till 7pm.

AUDI Q8 CONCEPT

AUDI Q8 CONCEPT

Audi Q8 Concept to debut at NAIAS

One of the highlights of NAIAS 2017 is sure to be the brand new Audi Q8 concept that will make its debut for the first time, starting off the new year with a flourish. According to Audi, this near-production model apparently blends “the emotional styling of a coupé” with the spaciousness typical of an SUV. The famous German automobile manufacturer is very proud of this new Q model line, a concept that is both sporty and prestigious. With an imposing front end, octagonal Singleframe that is much wider than Audi’s current production models and an extremely spacious interior, the brand new Q8 is expected to be a force to be reckoned with in its class.

Many of the vehicle’s design elements are said to be reminiscent of Audi’s legendary UR-quattro that was manufactured in the 1980s. So if you’d like to see this exemplary vehicle as well as many other outstanding debuts, it’s time to book your tickets and plan a trip to Detroit mid-January.

If you would like any more information on NAIAS, or wish to book tickets for the show, or would like to find out more about the Audi Q8 Concept, or other vehicles that will be making their debut at the show, contact Baroque Ground now, info@baroqueground.com. If you need assistance with travel arrangements to and from Detroit, including accommodation, transfers and anything else, our sister company, Baroque Travel, will be glad to assist. Audi A5 cabrio on show at the LA Auto Show

One of the world’s most influential and best-attended motoring events, the LA Auto Show, will take place from 18 to 27 November. Baroque Ground finds out about the Audi A5 Cabriolet and other highlights

Audi A5 Cabriolet

Audi A5 Cabriolet

Every November, show creator ANSA Productions gathers together the Who’s Who of the Motoring Industry to unveil the future of motor vehicles in LA, the car culture capital of the world. And this year will be no exception. From 18 to 27 November, motoring enthusiasts from all corners of the globe will gather together at the LA Convention Center to enjoy the 2016 LA Auto Show and see what’s new and innovative in the world of motoring.

Audi A5 Cabriolet

Audi A5 Cabriolet

One of these is the Audi A5 Cabriolet, which is expected to be a highlight at the show. The new Audi A5 hardtop already blew everybody away at the Paris Motor Show in September, and the vehicle’s soft top iteration is expected to be even more popular. The 2016 Audi A5 convertible received plenty of adulation, and with new manufacturing processes and materials, the latest model is expected to surpass all that. In fact, with this new model, Audi has used its engineering genius to reduce the stiffness, increase the car’s strength and sort out its handling.

The 2017 Audi A5 convertible is stronger, longer and wider, giving it a lower center of gravity and a more spacious interior. In addition, the soft top is insulated to keep out external noise. Getting the roof down takes 15 seconds with the touch of a button, and microphones in the front seatbelts enable driver and passengers to communicate when the top is down. Car specs are high-tech and include up to 30 different functions such as park assist and collision avoidance. On routes with a speed limit of up to 65km per hour, the car can even accelerate and brake for itself, and steering can also be automated. At the show, prospective buyers will be able to find out all about the brand new A5, as well as the super-charged S5 version, which boasts a 3-liter 354hp six-cylinder turbo-charged engine, Quattro all-wheel drive and eight-speed paddle-shift transmission.

Prior to the show opening to the public, media, global industry leaders and marketers from more than 58 countries will come to attend the Show’s Press and Trade Days. In addition, a one-day conference and expo is held in conjunction with the LA Auto Show Press and Trade Days.

BMW

BMW

The Show opens to the pubic from 18 to 27 November 2016 and features everything imaginable related to motoring, whether it’s purchasing a new car, learning about the latest technology, exploring customized vehicles, comparison shopping different makes and models or anything else related to cars.

The final countdown to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

The largest and most glamorous sporting event in the Middle East takes place from 24 to 28 November 2016. Baroque Travel finds out everything you need to know about the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Held every November at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island Marina Circuit, the Grand Prix is a highlight of the motoring calendar. Spectators flock to the Middle East every year to enjoy this exciting Formula One Race, and with good reason. Aside from it being the largest and most glamorous sporting event held in the Middle East, its location is quite spectacular. Yas Island, located on the eastern side of the city of Abu Dhabi is not only home to a 3.45 mile circuit, which is the ideal location for a FIA Formula One World Championship, it also boasts a selection of five-star luxury hotels as well as the famous Ferrari Theme Park.

The Yas Marina Circuit is quite unique and extremely impressive. It runs alongside Yas Island’s beautiful marina and passes right underneath the plush Yas Viceroy Hotel and alongside a new 60-meter sun tower. The exit of the pit lane even crosses right under the circuit.

Of course, Abu Dhabi has plenty to offer aside from the fun of the Grand Prix circuit. The largest and wealthiest of the seven United Arab Emirates, it has managed to maintain its local traditions and charms, making it a fascinating place to explore. It’s also the richest city in the world, home to 420,000 permanent citizens.

Abu Dhabi’s International Airport is located right next to Yas Island, so getting around is easy, both to the city, 30 minutes drive away, and to the island itself.

When you’re not enjoying the thrills of the Formula One Grand Prix, make sure to explore the Yas Marina Circuit itself. You’ll find drag racing and an off-road driving center, and you can test your skills at the modern kart center.

There’s plenty to see at Yas Marina Circuit, aside from watching Formula One cars. There’s drag racing and an off-road driving centre, and you can test your own skills at a state-of-the-art kart centre. Also on Yas Island, the Ferrari Theme Park covers 250,000 square meters and features a G-Force Tower, driving schools (kids can learn as well as adults) and plenty of cars on display.

Discover the magic in cosmopolitan Abu Dhabi, while you’re in town, and make sure to visit the Louvre, which opened in 2012; it’s the first Louvre Museum outside of France.

Let Baroque Travel arrange your stay in Abu Dhabi, as well as tickets to attend the upcoming Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. We can arrange everything for you, including flights, accommodation on Yas Island close to the action, transfers and sightseeing. Just contact us while there’s still time, info@baroquetravel.com

Every year, the world’s most talented international golfers get together to compete in one of the highlights of the golfing competitions, the DP World Tour Golf Championships in Dubai. This November, from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th, the 60 top golfers on the European Tour will head for the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates to compete in four rounds of stroke-play over four days. This golf course is one of two designed by Greg Norman that are both located on Dubai’s renowned Jumeirah Golf Estates.

This marks the end of the season for the European Tour, and culminates in a US$8 million prize for the winner of the DP World Tour Championship. But that’s not all. There’s also a Bonus Pool for the Race to Dubai, a sum of money which is divided amongst the leading players. This is calculated according to their earnings on the 2016 European Tour International Schedule, which covers more than 45 tournaments in 26 destinations across five continents.

The Race to Dubai – explained

There are four Final Series tournaments (the Turkish Airlines Open, The WGC- HSBC Champions, The BMW Masters and the DP World Tour Championship). Each of these has an enhanced Race to Dubai points breakdown that totals 8 million points. In other words, each winner of each of these four tournaments receives 1,333,330 points. The Dubai Bonus Pool is divided amongst the leading 15 Players in The Race to Dubai Rankings; this is calculated at the end of the DP World Tour Championship Dubai each year.

Exciting news about the Paris Motor Show

An exciting selection of beautiful new cars will make their debut at the Paris Motor Show, one of the most exciting events in the motoring calendar. Baroque Ground finds out what to expect

One of the highlights of the motoring calendar, the 2016 Paris Motor Show, which takes place between 1 and 16 October, will showcase a selection of debuts and reveals, including the Mercedes E-Class All-Terrain.

The Paris Motor Show, known in French as the Mondial de l’Automobile, is an annual event, as popular, if not more so, than the prestigious Frankfurt and Geneva Motor Shows. Obviously, French manufacturers take center stage, so one can expect something to write home about from Peugeot, Citroen and Renault. But as it’s also a global motor show, so almost every major vehicle manufacturer in the world will make an appearance, showing off everything from little city cars to SUVs – and everything in between.

Talking about SUVs, the new Mercedes to be unveiled at the show is believed to be able to tackle routes that others in its class have given up on, thanks to better ground clearance as well as its 4MATIC all-wheel drive which is a standard feature. It’s a tough looking car, destined to make an impact, and be snapped up for delivery by early summer 2017. So far, prices and specs have not yet been released, but the motoring industry is abuzz about this groundbreaking vehicle.

The car is rumored to be the most versatile of its kind, with a striking design and lots of interior space. There are numerous innovative safety features, not to forget the E-Class interior, which has won numerous awards. The new iteration apparently boasts increased ground clearance thanks to a multi-chamber air suspension and is flexible on all surfaces, whether roads are paved or unpaved.

One of the most eye-catching features of this new vehicle is the SUV-style two-fin grille with a star integrated in its center. The front bumper and lower panels are all electroplated in silver chrome, whilst the top part of the front bumper is painted in the same color as the body and the lower part features grained black plastic.

Another distinctive feature is the black wheel arch covers, showing off the car’s all-terrain personality. Alloy wheels give the car a confident look, lots of ground clearance and more comfort on rough terrain. The launch model is an E 220 d 4MATIC with a newly developed four-cylinder diesel engine. A variant with a six-cylinder diesel engine will follow shortly. Both of these models boast 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission.

Other vehicles to look out for in a similar category include the Audi Q5, the latest iteration of Audi’s premium SUV, a concept version of BMW’s coupe-cum-SUV, the BMW X2, a new guise for the Land Rover Discovery and the huge Skoda SUV, the Skoda Kodiaq.

As in years past, the 2016 show is held at the enormous Paris Expo Porte de Versailles exhibition center. If you would like to get your tickets, or find out more about any of the new vehicle debuts or launches to take place at the Paris Motor Show, let Baroque Ground Assist. Contact us right away, info@baroqueground.com, and we will arrange everything for you. If you need assistance with travel arrangements, our sister company, Baroque Travel, can also assist, so mail them, info@baroquetravel.com and they will organize everything for you.

New luxury movie theater for NYC

Going to the movies hasn’t been much fun in New York City of late, but all that’s about to change, with a brand new luxury movie theater experience on offer at a multiplex in the upmarket new Fulton Market. Baroque Access finds out all the details

New York City is known for many things, but not for offering state-of-the-art, luxury movie theaters. But that’s all about to change. There’s a new generation of dine-in theaters taking over Manhattan, offering a very different cinema experience. Brooklyn was the first to announce the arrival of new movie theaters in 2017 – namely Alamo Drafthouse and a Nitehawk Cinema. But first on the scene will be New York’s brand new iPic multiplex theaters, which opens on 7 October at the same time as the upmarket new Fulton Market.

The new iPic theater will feature eight theaters in all, seating between 43 and 138 patrons at a time (500 people in all at a time). All will offer over-sized, extra-cushioned, ultra-comfortable seats (called ‘premium plus’) in addition to the normal offering, not to mention built-in tables and wide aisles. The ‘premium plus’ reclining luxury seats come with the option of ordering something to eat while you’re watching the movie, which is then delivered by a waitress or picking up a selection of goodies at iPic Express and nibbling on these during the film. iPic Express also offers an assortment of cocktails, beer, and wine, featuring their exclusive Cocktail Shaker.

This option includes unlimited popcorn as well as a menu of contemporary American dishes designed by Chef Sherry Yard, accompanied by drinks by Adam Seger. The seats themselves are plush leather, and pillows and blankets are also provided for the optimum comfort. The experience is pretty much like you’re in an airplane; there’s a button at your seat that you can use to summons your waitress much like you can call the airline stewardess if you’re in the air. Of course, all the premium plus seats offer great views of the screen.

If you’re not sitting in ‘premium plus’, don’t despair. You can still enjoy a selection of ‘gourmet popcorns’, as well as old-school candies and regular drinks, all available at the concession stand.

Incidentally, iPic’s entertainment philosophy covers more than just going to the movies. They offer a selection of experiences, whether it’s watching the latest blockbuster film in one of its new plush auditoriums, savoring gourmet dining-in-the-dark chef-driven cuisine at a selection of restaurants, including The Tuck Room, City Perch Kitchen & Bar and Que, or sipping a unique farm-to-glass cocktail option at one of iPic’s bar and lounge spaces. The choice of experience is up to you, and if you’re in the mood, you’re welcome to sample them all simultaneously!

iPic opens with  movie screenings starting on Friday the 7th. You’ll find it inside the revamped Fulton Market Building on South Street Seaport.

If you’d like to reserve your seats and find out what movies will be showing at the iPic multiplex, let Baroque Access assist. Contact us right away, info@baroqueaccess.com, and we will give you all the info on what’s showing, then book your seats for you at your choice of theater.

This is for the Jaguar lovers

Jaguar owners will participate in one of the most popular events of the Concours of Elegance which takes place at Windsor Castle in Britain from 2 to 4 September. Baroque Ground finds out all the details

As part of Jaguar Land Rover Classic’s partnership with the Concours of Elegance, owners of Jaguar automobiles will have the chance to enter their vehicles into the Jaguar Land Rover Trophy in a choice of five categories: Pre-war, Saloons, Sports cars, Classics of the Future and Judges’ Choice. All owners of entry vehicles will be invited to park their cherished Jaguars in specially reserved spaces along Windsor Castle’s The Long Walk on Saturday 3 September. That day, a panel of expert judges will choose the winners in each class plus an overall winner, entitled ‘Best in Show’.

Last year’s Jaguar Land Rover Classic was a huge success, attracting a stunning selection of Jaguar vehicles. The setting – Windsor Castle , which is the largest and oldest inhabited castle in the world – is also idyllic and historic, making it the perfect location for a showcasing of classic motor cars. The exhibition offers motor aficionados as well as Jaguar owners and potential buyers the opportunity to view these classic vehicles and take a look at recent restorations.

The Concours of Elegance 2016, which takes place between 2 and 4 September this year, offers visitors the opportunity to view 60 of the most exceptional cars from all over the world. It is a unique event, as it’s the only automotive event to be held at a Royal venue.  In past years, the event has been held at iconic British locations such as St James’ Palace, Hampton Court Palace and the Palace of Holyroodhouse. This year, the event takes place at Windsor Castle during Her Majesty the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations and the display is going to be even more exceptional than ever.

His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent is the patron of the Concours of Elegance, and he serves as the Chief Judge in the popular Royal Automobile Club ‘Club Trophy’ which brings together the ‘best of the best’ cars in the UK. The winner of the trophy is granted automatic entry into the following year’s Concours of Elegance.

According to Concours of Elegance judges, if a vehicle is invited to participate in this prestigious event, it is already a winner. The owner of each vehicle is thus given one vote to vote for another vehicle in the Concours that they consider worthy of winning the trophy. The car with the most votes then wins the Concours of Elegance Pullman Trophy and the title ‘Best in Show’.

This exciting event will be open to the public on both Saturday and Sunday 3 and 4 September 2016. The key objective of this Concours of Elegance, like those in the past, is to raise significant amounts for charity. To date more than $791,000 has been raised.

If you would like to participate in the Concours of Elegance with your Jaguar, or would like to attend this esteemed event at Windsor Castle, let Baroque Ground assist you. Contact us right away, info@baroqueground.com and we will reserve tickets for you and give you all the information you require. If you would like to travel to Britain for this exciting event, our sister company, Baroque Travel, can assist. Mail them now, info@baroquetravel.com and they will arrange everything for you.

Da Vinci's Workshop at the Burning Man Festival

Every year come the end of summer, Black Rock City in Nevada comes alive as festival goers get together to create a vibrant if temporary community dedicated to art. Baroque Access finds out all the details

This year’s Burning Man takes place from 28 August to 5 September in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert. The unique festival, which was first held in 1986 on Baker Beach in San Francisco, is held annually from the last Sunday in August until Labor Day (5 September). This year, as in years past, the Burning Man community explores various forms of artistic expression which include experimental and interactive sculptures, building, performances, art cars and various other media inspired by an annual theme (the theme for 2106 is ‘Da Vinci’s Workshop’).

The festival begins with a symbolic ritual of burning a large wooden effigy (‘The Man’) on the Saturday evening preceding the event. Last year’s attendance was 70,000 people – and Burning Man 2016 is expected to be even more popular.

The 2016 theme, Da Vinci’s Workshop, is inspired by the Italian Renaissance of the 15th and 16th centuries that modernized Europe. The story focuses on the city of Florence and the festival will recreate and awaken the Renaissance in Black Rock City in its inimitable way.

Florentine artist Leonardo da Vinci was one of the era’s most definitive icons. He was inspired by the Roman architect Vitruvius and mapped the human body, limbs outstretched to span a universal circle. This year’s Burning Man will emulate the symbol of Da Vinci’s Vetruvian man. Festival participants will be invited to operate an elaborate system of gears and pulleys to slowly rotate Burning Man 360 degrees on a vertical plane much like rotating an enormous spinning wheel. Fusing art, science and technology like Da Vinci will be emulated here at Burning Man 2016. The Burning Man will be located in a public square, a piazza lined with workshops. Here, artists and patrons will come together, pool their resources and create a vibrant environment.

One of the highlights of Burning Man is the magnificent art installations, and the 2016 projects are going to be quite spectacular. They include an Adventure Vending Machine that dispenses adventures as well as Awakening, a large-scale interactive steel sculpture of a human head and two hands emerging from the ground. The head’s interior is a darkened room that visitors can enter; it serves as a theater for viewing the outside world, and a control room for moving the vast hands. Visitors use 3D glasses to make them feel as if they are immersed in the sculpture.

Another highlight of the festival is The Black Rock Lighthouse Service, an adult jungle gym comprising a cluster of lighthouses that range in height from under 2 meters to 20 meters. At night these structures come alive with light, fire and some other surprises.

Once you’ve had your fill of the excitement, make sure to enjoy a snack at Dust City Diner, where you step back in time to the 1940s for grilled cheese and coffee served by bee-hived waitresses. You’ll have to search for the diner, though, as it moves locations on a nightly basis.
