From 19 to 22 November, world class golfers will get together in Dubai to enjoy the final tournament of the European Tour’s Race. This season-long schedule spans 48 tournaments in 26 different destinations around the world and across all five continents. This year, the DP World Tour Championship’s seventh consecutive year, the world’s top 60 golfers will once again be hosted on the Earth Course, one of the two courses designed by Greg Norman that anchor the neighborhoods in Dubai’s famous Jumeirah Golf Estates.

With millions of golf fans around the world watching, both on television and on the course, the Dubai World Championship shifted the epicenter of golf towards Dubai — and was one of the most memorable sporting events of 2014.

The championship is one of the largest in the world as well; last year’s prize of $8 million went to Sweden’s Henrik Stenson, who won a $5 million bonus pool as well for what is nicknamed the “Race to Dubai”. His prize included the Harry Vardon Trophy, which was first awarded in 1937, plus a seven-year European Card exemption. He also secured Category 1 Membership of the European Tour Card exemption, which is similar to what winners of the Open Championship, the US Open, the US PGA championship and the Masters Tournament receive. Second place went to Frenchman Victor Dubuisson, whilst Justin Rose of England and Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy who tied for third and fourth place. Ireland's Shane Lowry finished fifth.

How the Race to Dubai works

Each of the four Final Series tournaments (the Turkish Airlines Open, The WGC- HSBC Champions, The BMW Masters and the DP World Tour Championship), will have an enhanced Race to Dubai point’s breakdown totaling 8 million points, with each winner receiving 1,333,330 points. The Dubai Bonus Pool is divided amongst the leading 15 Players in The Race to Dubai Rankings as calculated at the conclusion of the 2015 DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, as set out in the table below. However, this year the Bonus Pool will not be treated as Official Money this year and will thus not be added to the final Race to Dubai Rankings. This is to allow for the operation of an additional bonus scheme that will be paid out only to those players who participate in 3 out of 4 of the Final Series events.
