Singapore Grand Prix Night Race

It’s almost that time of year again, when Singapore comes to life as fans from all over the world descend on the city to enjoy the FIA Formula One World Championship Grand Prix. Baroque Access finds out what’s happening this year

Come mid-September, the Marina Bay Street Circuit will be full of fans who have come to watch the inaugural Formula One night race at Asia’s first street circuit for F1 races. The first time the race was held at night was in Singapore in 2008. Now, almost a decade later, the 5,065km Marina Bay Circuit is still lit up with state-of-the-art lighting and the Formula One night race has become a highlight on the F1 calendar.

It’s set against the brilliant backdrop of Singapore’s downtown area, and offers drivers and spectators a beautiful view of this exotic city as the cars race past a selection of city landmarks such as the historic City Hall and the more modern Esplanade. The circuit is technically challenging, testing the drivers and their super cars that reach a maximum speed of 300km per hour. Now there’s a new road forming part of the circuit – it’s 1.2km in length and makes up part of the circuit’s eastern section next to the pit building.

The strategically located grandstands and hospitality suites offer the perfect platform to view this exciting race and enjoy an unforgettable Formula One experience.
