At the Monaco Yachts Show Gala event, the best super yachts of 2016 received numerous awards and accolades. Baroque Yachts reports live from the 2016 Monaco Yacht Show
For the 26th year in a row, Monaco is not only showcasing the best and most luxurious super yachts in the world, it is also honoring them at its annual Monaco Yacht Show (MYS). We were reminded of the importance of an event such as this show, which provides a world stage for the super yacht community to showcase their latest cutting edge designs and innovations.
The gala event, which was held at the Hermitage Hotel in Monaco, was host to representatives of the super yacht industry from all corners of the globe including the likes of Abeking & Rasmussen, Perini Navi, Heesen Yachts, Feadship, Benetti, Espen Oeino, Blohm + Voss and many, many more.
The highlight of the Gala event is the Monaco Yacht Show 2016 Awards, the third installment of this important initiative. And at the show, three magnificent super yachts, selected from a list of 13, split the four top awards amongst themselves.
Heesen Yachts was the biggest winner at the show, winning two awards, firstly for its exceptional exterior work on the Galactica Supernova, and also for the Galactica being the best super yacht at the Monaco Yacht Show.
The Finest New Super Yacht Award went to Galactica Super Nova, the 70m Heesen flagship vessel that was launched earlier this year. It also won the Best Interior Design Award. This outstanding vessel, commissioned in December 2013, was built and delivered in just 41 months.
Galactica Super Nova, is not only one of the 200 largest yachts in the world; it’s also one of the fastest, thanks to two MTU wing engines with fixed pitch propellers and a third central engine with Rolls Royce booster water jet. She reaches a maximum speed of 30.3 knots in just 75 seconds.
The 70m sailing yacht 70-meter sailing yacht, Sybaris, received an award for its exquisite exterior design. The yacht, which also launched earlier this year, is the second largest yacht from Italian shipyard Perini Navi; the first was the famous Maltese Falcon. The yacht’s interior design was created by an American studio, PH Design. All the furniture was custom-designed.
The MYS/RINA Award went to the 47m eco-friendly yacht Genesi, the first yacht to be built by Italian shipyard, Wider. This award, which is given for being green, was created by Italian classification company, RINA. The shipyard is currently working on a new project, the 50m Project Cecilia.
